Former Ripley residents mark anniversary of graduation
Two former Riley residents and brothers
Dr. John D. Munn and Lionel Munn
celebrated their 45th graduation anniver-
sary at the University of Western Ontario in
London on October 15,
Then right after the noon hour last
Wednesday, October 20 Dr. John D. Munn
of the Lakeshore Roach south of the Sixth
Concession in Huron Township was in
Ripley and brought to the home of Ab and
Fran Wylds a Ripley Express newspaper
dated Thursday'
June 10, 1938 which would
be about a week, after the Western Universi-
ty summer convocation that year,
Right in the centre of the front page and
side by side were the clear graduation pic-
tures of John I), and Lionel T. Munn, John

this paper turned up at this time and even
more remarkable how it survived all those
past 45 years._The label on it has the address
James MacTavish RR 1, Riley.
Jim and his wife Clara both now deceas-
ed, improved their home by installing a new
floor above the old floor. This paper was one
of those used between the two floors,
Recently his son Jim and his wife Marj. had
the flooring In their dining livingroom
renewed. In the removal of the old flooring
the papers were located. Jim gave some to
his sister Marion (Mrs, Perrin Lowry) who
lives on the 4th concession hill overlooking
LuPerrin in turn gave this paper to Dr, John
D, Munn, his neighbour on the Lakeshore
road about a mile north, Here John will keep
it at his home on the Tom Blair farm.
Lionel lives in Toronto dd retired after a
successful career with a well known Cana-
dian oil and gasoline company, John liven -
retired on his farm here returning occa-

Howard David Thompson of William
Street in ttipley and formerly of the North
Boundary Lot 2 in Huron Township passed
away this Monday morning October 31, 1983,
In the Owen Sound General and Marine
Hospital where he had been taken from Kin-
cardine on Sunday, Howard was in .his 75th
year,
Born on Wednesday, April 29, 1900 in
Huron Township his parents were the late
George Thompson and:Sarah Nesbitt,
The funeral service will be held this after-
noon at 2130 pp,m, Wednesday, November 2,
1083 at the MacKenzie McCreath Funeral
Home in Ripley with Rev, Phil Duch of St.
Pauls Anglican Church, Ripley officiating,
Interment is in Ripley Cemetery,
Howard is survived by his wife the former
Marjorie Nicholson, his daughter Marie,
Mrs. Allan Coking, Con, 11 east of Ripley, his
son Bert on the home farm on the North
Boundary of Huron Townshipand six grand-
children and several greagrandchildren.
Also three sisters Viola Mrs. William
Stanley and Olive, Mrs. Aran Irwin both of
Lucknow and Myrtle, Mrs, Alex Percy of
Kinlaugh, and one brother Harvie Thomp-
son of the North Boundary, Huron
Township,
Sincere sympathy is extended to all the
family at this time of bereavement.

Jim Hurt has returned home from
Wingham Hospital after a stay of three
week. We all wish him a speedy recovery,

Five Charolais heifers averaging 650 lbs.
were sold by Jack Smith, Dungannon to
Cargill Livestock for 72.25.
McDonald Otos, Ripley sold 2 heifer
calves to Bob Hlackwell for 86,00, They
averaged 330 lbs.

Street almost across from the Ripley Huron
Medical clinic.
All three Marion, John D, and Lionel at-
tended the Ripley Public School and the
Ripley Continuation School, Getting back to
the newspaper aper Allan K, McLay was the
reporter for the Ripley Express,
He had his office just north of the old
Ripley Post Office on Main Street,
Congratulations Nancy
Mrs, Nancy Hrown of Lucknow received
her Bachelor of Science degree at the fall
convocation at the University of Waterloo on
Friday, October 21,
The convocation was held in the Physical
Activities Complex in the U, of W, Nancy is
the chief technologist in charge of the
laboratory in the Wingham District
Hospital. Nancy is the second daughter of
Allister and Pearl MacKay on the Sixth Con-
cession east in Huron Township.
She graduated from Grade 13 at the
Ripley District High School in June 1u9
where she was one of 32 students in the
largest grade 13 class in the history of this
school,
On Friday morning of the convocation
Nancy flew into the London airport from Oto
tawa where she attended a convention dur-
ing the first part of the week, At the London
airport, husband Edward Brown and her
parents Allister and Pearl MacKay met her
and Ed drove them to Waterloo,
It was a busy day for Nancy as she hustled
from convention to Convocation, Con-
gratulations go to Nancy at this time, It is
always nice to learn about the success of our
former students,
