Shower November bride
A delightful bridal shower was held
recently at the home of Jannet Drennan,
Ross Street, Lucknow for Liz Palmer of
Wingham, formerly of Toronto, who will
marry Paul Drennan of Ashfield Township
on November 5.
The bride and her attendants, Stephanie
Walker, sister of the bride, and Jennifer
Drennan, sister of the groom, entered the
living room to strains of Here Comes the
Bride, played on the piano by Isabelle
Shepherd.
A short humorous program was conducted
by Dawn Myhill, Toronto, after which the
bride and attendants, assisted by little Lisa
Bruce of , Kincardine, opened the many
beautiful and useful gifts and cards of best
wishes.
Liz, in her charming manner, thanked
everyone for the lovely gifts, those who
arranged the shower and helped in any way.
A delicious lunch was served by the
hostesses, Lorraine Stewart of Guelph and
Dawn Myhill, assisted by Emily Drennan,
Ashfield, mother of the groom.
A get acquainted chit chat followed, after
which the bride arid her mother, Elsie
Palmer, left for home amid best wishes from
the guests.
Guests attended the shower from Toronto,
Guelph, Wingham, Bayfield, Goderich,
Auburn, Nile, Exeter, Kincardine, Lucknow,
Ashfield Township and Holyrood.
Attend arthritis conference
Volunteers from across the Bluewater
Region of The Arthritis Society gathered in
Hanover this past weekend for their annual
conference. Representative from Lucknow
was Catherine Andrew.
Milt Alley, Hospital Administrator at the
Shelburne District Hospital, who is the
Bluewater Region Chairman, thanked the
delegates for attending the Campaign
Celebration Meeting and indicated that
overall he was very pleased with the success
of the campaigns.
Cheques amounting to $124,003.00 were,
presented to Mary Guse, Regional Field
Representative for The Arthritis Society.
Many of the volunteers in attendance have
been working for The Arthritis Society for as
long as twelve years,
Ross Morrison, Executive Vice -President
for the Ontario Division of the Society
expressed the pleasure of the Ontario Board
at the • continuing success of volunteer
activities in the Bluewater Region,
"There is no other like it in Ontario," Mr,
Morrison said, "You people continue to
outshine most of the fifteen Regions in the
Ontario Division by increasing your per
capita consistently each and every year/'
Mr. Morrison further expressed that the
current five year program of The Arthritis
Society "Basic Research" was well under-
way,
Midgets open hockey season

The Lucknow Midget season began early
with a scheduled game in Mildmay on
October 27. The game, characterized by lack
of discipline and consistency mi both teams,
ended in a 3 - 3 tie.
in a game that Lucknow should have won,
team strategy of strength up the middle was
made difficult when centernten Gtant
Murray and Dan Gilchrist received 10 and 8
minutes, respectively, in minor penalties,
most of the reaction type. in fact, five of the
6 goals scored involved man advantage
situations and both power play goals against
Lucknow were scored when Lucknow was
two men short.
On the scoreboard, Lucknow's first of the
season went to Dan Gilchrist from Irwin,
Mildmay came back with two and held the
lead into the break but early in the third,
Chris lrwin tied the score from G. Murray
and Gilchrist on a power play that lasted five
seconds. Although the Lucknow team
appeared to control most of the third period,
Mildmay pulled ahead on a lucky bounce
about the halfway mark and tightened up
defensively, M 6.14 however, Grant Murray
ended the scoring on a goal from McKim to
tie the game at three
The first Midget home game is a
November 14 rematch against Mildmay,
