Mr. and Mrs. Bill Purdon spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gaunt, Jennifer and Graeme of Chatham. Mr. and Mrs. Art Burrows have sold their house and moved to Lucknow on Wed- nesday. The village extends a warm welcome to Mr. and Mrs. France of Belgrave who purchased the Burrows prop- erty and moved in on the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Frank, Rob- bie and Jamie of Teeswater spent the holiday weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gibson. Hazel Purdon is with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Rintoul, since her release from Wingham Hos- pital. We wish her a speedy return to health. In the last issue these names were missed when listing members of the Whitechurch W.I. who can- vassed for the Cancer Soc- iety: Mrs. Bill Cruikshank, Mrs. Frazer Forgie, Mrs. Lucknow WMS discuss nuclear weapons testing Mrs. Bert Moffat presided over the monthly meeting of the Evening Auxiliary to the Lucknow Presbyterian W.M.S. on May 17. A poem entitled, Thank You, was the call to worship. Mrs. Virden Mowbray gave the meditation, Hy the Power of God, reading from Acts 16 and Matthew 18. Mrs. James Aitchison gave an interesting discourse on the South Pacific Islands. This topic pointed out the fear of .nuclear power arous- ed by the use and testing of nuclear weapons near the Marshall islands and Hawaii. For a variety number Mrs. Ralph Cameron read several interesting poems. The Pres- ident thanked all those who had taken part in the meeting and extended a warm wel- come to Mrs. Allison Ram- say, wife of the church's new minister. Before a delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Gordon Lyons and Mrs. James Ait- chison, the group tried to solve a quiz called, Bible Cake. Book sale at Blyth Centre strum page 18 The readings will be held in the art gallery along with displays of local artists, weaver Tony Vos, potters Rob Tetu and Addle McPhee and ceramics artist Pat Cook. Children will love Merrick Jarrell, folk musician anti storyteller. He entertains with guitar, recorder, dul- cimer and limberjack dolls on Sunday at 3. Jarrell involves his audience in the perform- ances, and young and old will go away smiling. A librarian in Kitchener, Jarrell teaches a course in Traditional Folk Music at the University of Waterloo. Throughout the two day event participants in last year's children's workshop program at the Festival will present puppet shows. If weather permits the Goder- ich Collegiate Institute Mime Company will perform out- side the theatre. Backstage tours of the theatre, a sale of home baking and a luncheon coun- ter complete the festivities. Huron County's largest book sale will be held on Saturday, June 4 and Sun- day, June 5 at the Memorial Hall in Blyth. Admission is free and proceeds go to the Hlyth Sulaimer Festival. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Emer- son, Sharon and Brenda of St. Catharines spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson. Darlene Emerson was in Philadelphia attending a rowing regatta in which she took part. Mrs. Jeff Alden held a very interesting amusing wedding shower for Mrs. C. Daw on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Alden conducted three contests before Mrs. Daw opened her gifts. Her mother Mrs. Blom made a hat of bows. Mrs. C. Daw thanked all for coming, for their gifts and Mrs. Alden for arranging the shower for her. The hostess and helpers then served lunch to the guests. Chalmers W.M.S. Chalmers W.M.S. held their May meeting on Wed- nesday, May 18 at the home of Mrs. Bill Purdon with Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw presiding for the worship service. The scripture was read by Annie Laidlaw. The medita- tion from the Study Book was read by Mrs. Rod Lamb. The topic, Caring for Hum- an Life, was given by Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw. The offering was received and dedicated by Annie Laidlaw. Mrs. El- roy Laidlaw closed with a reading, Mother. The grouppresident, Mrs. Don Ross, presided for the business. The minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs. Bill Purdon. Mrs. Alan Fal- coner gave the financial statement. The roll call was answered by 10 giving a verse with the words, Family. Business dis- cussed included cleaning of the church and flowers for the anniversary service the first Sunday in June. The closing prayer was given by Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw.
