Jamboree committee
finalize plans
As Jamboree '83 is draw-
ing near, plans and details
are being finalized.
Delores Cross with her
capable committee are plant-
ing trees and the flower
boxes as well as erecting
flags this week. With the
local people decorating their
homes. this committee will
have the town decorated for
this gala event.
Shirley Montgomery is ar-
ranging the registration. All
local people will have the
opportunity and are encour-
aged to pre -register at John-
stone's Furniture Stere on
June 18 and 25. This way the
visitors can sneak a look at
your name, too,
It is hoped that a street
dance will be arranged for
those under 19 years of age.
Barry McDonagh is enquir-
ing into the possibility of this
and will report back at the
next meeting.
The parade is promising to
be an exciting part of the
weekend. Bob McIntosh re-
ports he is already receiving
entries. Don't forget to ent-
er, get your float ready and
be part of the fun.

and committees were hold
their next meeting on Tues-
day, June 7, 1983at7p.m. at
the Lucknow Community
Centre when everyone who is
interested in Jamboree '83 is

Ashfield WMS study
south sea islands
On May 19 the ladies of
Ashfield W.M.S. met at the
home of Mrs. Ewan MacLean
for their meeting.
Mrs. Gordon Finlayson op-
ened the worship service
with readings from St. John
and Galatians followed by
prayer.
Mrs. Gordon Finlayson in.
troduced the Study Session
showing islands in the South
Pacific that are owned by
France, Britain and America.
The concerns of people there
are the continued testing of
nuclear weapons and a dump
on one of the islands of
nuclear waste. Mrs. Stuart
MacLennan told of the
people of Marshall Island
where nuclear testing was
done nearby and they are
still unable to eat food or fish
from the northern part of
their island and have many
health problems caused by
radiation, A discussion fol-
lowed with the group discus-
sing the possible testing of
the American cruise missile
in Alberta.

read an article from Glad
Tidings, A Group That is
Different.
Mrs. Henry MacKenzie
conducted the business of
the meeting. A minutes sil-
ence was held in memory of
Mrs. Earl Howes who was a
faithful member of our
group.
The meeting closed with
lunch and an auction sale of
plants or "white elephants"
with Mrs. Ewan MacLean as
auctioneer.

American statistics that
school children spend an
average of 6.5 hours wat-
ching television daily.
"We are teaching a
generation used to being
entertained. The next day we
walk into the classroom and
we not only have to teach but
we have to entertain," Dr.
Bigler said, adding, "That's
why it is so important to
have novelty in the
classroom."
But she did counter that
statement by adding further,
