Overflow is emergency valve... *from page 3 emergency gravity overflow from the pumping station to Lucknow Creek, Does this mean raw sewage will still be dumped into the Lucknow River? According to Burns Ross of Burns Ross and Associates, the engineering firm which designed the sewage system, the chances of sewage being dumped into the Lucknow river through the emergency gravity over- flow is unlikely in a lifetime, The emergency gravity overflow is only used in a situation where everything else fails, If hydro electric power fails during a storm, the system is equipped with emerg- ency standby power in the form of a diesel generator set, located within a building located on the site of the pumping station, For this engine to fail as well as the regular power system is unlikely, except in extreme situations such as the tornado which passed through southern Ontario communities two weeks ago. According to Ross, the emergency gravity overflow is in place to handle that situation which is so extreme it could only happen once in .a lifetime, What will the residents have to pay to addition to the hookup charge, to have the sewer connected to their homes? The individual resident is responsible for building the line which will bring the sewer into his home. The contractor which builds the sewage system will bring the sewer line to the front of each residence property and the property owner is then responsible for hiring a private contractor to build the line from the hookup at the front of the property to the house. The charge for building the sewer line from the front of the property at the street to the house is in addition to the $750 connection charge from property line to the sanitary sewer. Ross cannot estimate the cost of building the line from the property line to the house but it could range from $1,000 to more than $2,000. Everyone in the serviced area must connect to the sewage system. They have no alternative.
