(Photo by Joanne Buchanan) Celebrates 95th birthday Hattie Van Arman, a resident at Maitland Manor in Goderich for the past six years, celebrated her 95th birthday on Sunday with a family dinner at a local restaurant. Mrs. Van Annan was born March 20, 1888 to William and Hannah Ryan on a farm in Ashfield Township. She later worked as a dressmaker in Dungannon until she married Burt Roach and moved with him to Lucknow where he worked for Silverwoods Dairy and she took up duties as a housewife. Of her years as a dressmaker before her marriage, she recalls that she was the only one with that occupation in Dungannon in her day and explains that there was no such thing as 'a ready-made dress' back then, Mrs. Van Arman moved to Goderich 22 years ago, remarrying after her first husband died. She has one daughter, Erma Brewer of Kitchener and one grandson, James Brewer. She has been a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Goderich for over 20 years. In her yow-ige days, she used to enjoy directing community plays in Lucknow and Goderich and touring 'with them to other towns as well. At Maitland Manor she now enjoys playing cards and likes to recite verses and pieces of poetry. "I don't have to be prompted. I've got them all right up here," she says proudly pointing to her head and beginning to rhyme one off. Indeed, her memory is fine and her health, with the exception of her eyes, is also fine. "I've lived a good life," she states. Hospital board plans new wing &from page 2 and the board sees what it will actually cost to build. Should the project proceed, the local fund raising program could start as early as this fall. "Whether or not we hire a consultant, we still have to find our own Bob Dempsey -- someone who is going to put in 25 hours a day," board member Raye Elmslie noted. "A lot of the success (of the campaign) will depend on that." Al the start of the meeting, board members watched a slide show put together to show how cramped and spartan are the quarters occupied by the emergency, out- patient and radiology departments at the Wingham hospital, compared to some of the new facilities at Kincardine, Walkerton, Goderich and Listowel hospitals, In other business, the board agreed to ask its architect to design a new front entrance for the hospital, The new design will incor- porate a ramp for wheel chairs as well as new steps coming up to the existing doorway, Luebkow Sentinel, %Awedlay, Much 30, 11103P.. 3 GROWERS NEEDED FOR NATTAWA SOYBEAN CONTRACTS "Hurry, only o few contracts left" Premiums up to $5.00 per bushel over published board price 4130 EXPORT MALTING BARLEY CONTRACTS NOW AVAILABLE rr- 0 ci kissigb ts .
