The local team went on to meet Ripley in the B final but lost 4 - 3 in that game when Ripley scored in the final 15 seconds of the game. [Steve McAllister Photo] Bantam B team defeat Goderich On Friday, January 14 Wingham skated off with an 8 - 4 victory over the Lucknow Bantam B team in the Lucknow arena. Wingham opened the scor- ing with three quick goals in the first eight minutes. Luck - now replied with one goal by Darin Lindsay before Wing - ham scored another to end the first period 4 - 1. In the second period Wing - ham again outscored the local t uam 3 to 1, with Steve Huffman scoring for Luck - now. in the final period the boys seems to come alive a d out- scored Wingham to - 1. Unfortunately it was tooillek too late! Jeff Burgsma and Darin Lindsay with his sec- ond goal of the game round- ed out Lucknow's scoring. A stronger team effort and sharper passing on Saturday, January 15 in Goderich re- sulted in the team's first victory of the New Year. The boys played well positioned hockey for three full periods and received outstanding goaltending from Robbie Beirnes. The key to the victory appeared to be Lucknow's fast start with two well executed goals by Darrin Lindsay. Goderich scored late in the second period narrowing the score to 2 - 1 but John Vandervelde fired a slap she' which made it 3 - 1 Lucknow. Goderich again narrowed the gap to 3 - 2 in the third period before Jeff Burgsma converted a goal mouth pass on a picture play with Jim Jurjens. Final score 4 - 2 Lucknow. Steve Hamilton making the transition to defence played extremely well. Wayne Burgsma played his usual steady game in anchor- ing the rest of the defence. Jeff Burgsma, the most improved player on the team, showed excellent promise in making the adjustment to the forward line. Congratulations are in or- der for the entire team who came up with their best performance to date. Juveniles tie Walkerton Sunday The Walkerton Juveniles scored with just 48 seconds left in the game on Sunday afternoon to come from be- hind and tie the host Luck - now team. Lucknow took a 1 - 0 lead halfway through the first period on a goal from George Alton, while Walkerton play- ed a man short. Art Clark's goal at the twelve minute mark of the second period made it 2 - 0 for Lucknow until halfway through the third when Wal- kerton scored on the power play. Lucknow took a 3 - 1 lead less than a minute later on a good wrist shot off the stick of Wayne Phillips, but with' less than three minutes re- maining, Walkerton scored another power play goal to narrow the gap to one. Both teams were at full strength when Walkerton pulled their goal tender in favour of a sixth attacker and with less than one minute remaining, scored the tieing goal. Lucknow's next game will be in Hanover this Saturday night. Senior fleas defeat Ripley 6-3 The Lucknow senior Flea team has once again shown what they can do, by beating Ripley Friday evening, with a score of 6 - 3. First period, goals were scored by Chris Stevenson with Justin Murray and Vince Sticklend assisting, and one unassisted. Second period goals were scored by Chris Stevenson with Steven Porter assisting; Brad Rhody with Tom Mc- Nee assisting and Adam Skillen with Vince Sticklend and Matt Sproule assisting. Chris Stevenson scored once more in the third period with Ray Dalton assisting, making it a 6 - 3 win. The boys really had to work to win this one, as Ripley is improving with every game. broornball le ue standings Tuesday night, January 11 Belgrave ladies shut down the Auburn ladies 3 - 0 with Joan Ribes getting a pair of goals in the game. Goderich Harbourlites came out bomb- ing, beating the Gravel Run- ners 2 -1 with Vickie Beanie getting the game winner. In men's play, the Lanes - s ille Lord' slipped past the Maitland Dirt Riders 2 - 0 and the Lakelet Hornets had to come hack and tie the Blyth Bears 2 - 2. In the Tiverton contest, although the scoresheet said 6 - 5 for Tiverton, the skeleton crew of eleven, who were able to play, put up a super battle and, with the help of a goal judge, might have come home with a well deserved win. In the first two periods, the Lucknow team played super positional hockey and, with a little luck, were able to carry a 4 - 1 lead into the break. Tiverton stormed into the third period with two fast goals but the Lucknow, team was able to put on the brakes and still held the lead when disaster struck in a flurry of goals in a space of a minute and 28 seconds around the 1 draw in a fast paced game. With a super third period, effort, almost a repeat of last week's comeback, the team scored four goals and had the lead late in the game until Teeswater scored with 44 seconds left to earn the tie.
