The Lucknow Sentinel, 1978-09-13, Page 14Sunday nursery begins at Whitechurch. by Valetta Emerson Whitechurch Chalmers Presbyterian Church next Sunday Sept, 17 is starting a "Nursery". There will be a nursery for three years and under in the Sunday school room surpervised by two of the Young Peoples Group each Sunday. Visitors during the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mowbray were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gibson; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Moore of Moosemin, Sask., who are visiting relatives here for two weeks ; Mr. and Mrs. Ron Seddon, Brantford; Sandra Woodstock, 'Denise of Paris and Cathy of Brantford visited on Saturday; Mr. and Mrs. Hector Purdon and Mrs. House of Strathroy; Mr. and Mrs. George Tiffin of Lucknow and Lynn Falconer of Sarnia. This community will be shocked to learn that the former Mrs. Hugh Hand passed away suddenly .at Palmerston due to a heart attack. The Hand family lived for a number of years next to the railroad track in Whitechurch. Word was received here Monday that Mr. Robert Figures of Sault St. Marie had passed away on Sunday. He was a relative of the Kennedy family. • Mr. and Mrs. Bill Empey of Auburn were Sunday *afternoon callers on Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Porteous of Lucknow. When Bill. Wilkens of Listowel received his holidays he came to his home and cleaned and painted his father's, Earl Wilkens, garage for him. Mr. Harvey Osborne on Monday started classes at' Knox College for the 3rd year. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Milligan and Clara, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Falconer., Tony, Timmy, and Amy. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Falconer of Sarnia on Sunday attended- the Olivet Ladner picnic at Albion Sunday visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Coultes, E. Wawanosh, and in the evening all visited with Mrs. Earl Caslick in Wingham. Mrs. Ben McClenaghan returned home with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Moss on the week end to. Platt- sville for a few days. On Friday evening the oung People's Society held a social at the Manse with singing around the camp fire. There were around 20 in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Chapman,. Lisa and Aaron, and Mrs. Irving visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Smith and family of Russeldale. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Duncan on Wednesday Sept. 6th, at their home here made a dinner and invited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Millan Moore, and her sister, ,Mrs. George Thompson, Wingham to come to their home and help Mr. and Mrs. Moore celebrate their 37th wedding an- niversary. The community wishes to extend their congratulations for many more years of health and happiness to Mr. and Mrs. Moore. Congratulations to Doris Willis and Arthur Burrows who were married on Saturday at Bluevale. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Collins of Bad Axe, Michigan spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson and on Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Collins and Victor at- tended the Threshers Reunion at Blyth. On Saturday night the family of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ross had a dance with music by Tiffins orchestra ° to celebrate their parents' 25th wed- ding anniversary. After lunch was served Don thanked the folks for attending and cards given before dancing was resumed. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Black and family were pleasantly surprised on Saturday evening when their son Jim arrived home sooner than they had expected after spending more than a year touring around many parts of the world. Good to have you home, Jim! A very successful rummage sale was held last Saturday at the home of Mrs. Jack McGuire. It was sponsored by the Olivet Unit of St. Andrews United Church, Ripley. The proceeds help to sponsor three overseas adopted children. Thanks to the weatherman for co- operating. Mrs, lion McGuire and Christopher visited on Sunday afternoon with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reeves and family of Ripley. Mrs. Ray Hamilton and Mrs. Walter- Black at- tended the funeral- last Friday afternoon at Seaforth for Mr. Orval Guy. Mrs. Guy is the former Jean McGuire and was raised on the farm now owned by Bill Vanderwal on the 2nd concession. Visiting with their parents for the weekend were Miss Wendy Hamilton who is at- tending Fanshawe College, London, Nancy McGuire of Western University, and Joyce Black who attends university in Kitchener. Hills. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Falconer of Sarnia spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Milligan. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Evans of London were Sunday visitors with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Evans. Dawson Craig and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson visited last Tuesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McBurney and Hugh. Congratulations to Brian Rintoul at Orangeville Show on Monday last where he had two heifers. winning 1st and 2nd prize in their class of 22 heifers. Donna Thompson spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Tiffin, Steven and Dean. Misses Heather and Sandra Currie of Guelph spent the week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Currie. Misses Sandra and Heather Currie on Sunday afternoon at- tended a shower for Vicky Peel at the home of Mrs. Robert Strong of Corrie. Mr. and Mrs. John A.
