Surprise shower for Wb. itechurch bride

On Monday evening Mrs.
Agnes Farrier held a surprise
shower for bride-to-be, Mrs.
Doris Willis. On her arrival
she was given a , seat of
honour decorated with pink
streamers.
Contests, humorous and
interesting, were enjoyed
with Mrs. Russel Ross, Miss
Mildred McClenaghan and
Mrs. Dave Gibb, as leaders.
Prize winners of contests
were Mrs. Bill Rintoul, Mrs.
George Webster, Mrs. Wes
Tiffin, Mrs. Dave Gibb, Mrs.
Robt. Mowbray, Mrs. Hugh
Simpson. Mrs. Bill Evans
was celebrating a wedding
anniversary nearest this
• date, September 4. Mrs...
Lorne Durnin played violin
selections accompanied by
,Mrs. Agnes Farrier, organ-
ist. A sing song was enjoyed
by all.
Prior to the presentation of
the gifts. Mrs, Victor Emer-
son gave a message to the
bride-to-be. Gifts were lovely
personals for the'bride-to-be.
Doris thanked all for their
lovely gifts, the sponsors of
the shower, and to all for
coming and to come to see
them in their home. Mrs.
Angus Falconer played organ
music while lunch was pre-
pared and served. Pictures
were taken of the guests
after lunch. There were
around 25 present.
Visitors on the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Lorne
Durnin were Mr. and Mrs.
Cameron Simmons, Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Long, Martin
and Amanda, all of London,
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Schol-
tz and Kenton of Goderich.
Congratulations from the
community to -Mr. and Mrs.
George Kennedy who on
Sunday celebrated their 40th
wedding anniversary at Can-
dlelight Inn, Goderich with
around 25 in attendance.
Their sons Bill and Jack were
home for the occasion. Miss
Annie Kennedy of Wingham
and Mr. and Mrs. Lorne
Durnin of the village were
also present for the occasion..
Visitors with 'Mrs. Ella
Johnston were Mr. and Mrs.
Ted Robinson, Auburn, Mr.
and Mrs. Jim Johnston,
Carol Ann and Ruth Ann,
Listowel.
Mrs. Ella Johnston and
George Grigg of Wingham
visited on Monday at St.
Marys Hospital with her son
Jack Johnston.
Whitechurch U.C.W. held
their " --Meeting Thursday,
August 31 at the home of
Mrs. Elwood Groskorth,
Goderich. Mrs. Wilda Laid-
law gave the meditation on
"The Elderly" and led in
prayer. She gave a thought
"In Christ we can look
forward to the future with
hope. With Agnes Farrier
organist, hymn, The earth,
the sky and the ocean, was
sung. Gertrude Durniri read
the scripture, Romans 8:31-
39. Whilda Laidlaw read a
poem, God is not far away.
Muriel Thompson and Wil-
da Laidlaw told about a
Jamaican minister, Rev.
Winston Brown and his work
in Toronto among the 100,
000, West Indies who live.
there. He is trying to help
them adjust to living in a
white society where all is so
different to their way of life.
Wilda led in prayer. All
sang, Sons of God hear His
holy word. Agnes Farrier
thanked Mrs. Groskorth for
her hospitality and all for
their part in the meeting.
Eleven answered the roll
call naming a missionary and
where they work. The collec-
tion and least coin was
received. Agnes Farrier clos-
ed the meeting with prayer.
The Birthday Tea was then
enjoyed.
Russel Chapman on Satur-
day attended the. Exhibition
with his son -Gary Chapman.
Miss Barbara Purdon of
Kitchener visited a few days
last week with her parents
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Purdon.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim de Boer.
and baby Michael and Linda
Moore arrived home on
Wednesday from a tour that
took them as far as Kitimat
where they visited with Rev.
Bev and Mrs. Kay, and
Wendy.

little Amy Falconer, daugh-

misfortune to fall down steps
injuring her collar bone
which necessitated having a
cast put on. We wish her a
speedy recovery.
