Some weeks ago, the
Minister of State for Small
Business announced a pro-
gram known as the Small
Business Intern Program.
This program is now fully
operational across the coun-
try.
This program is intended
to accomplish two extremely
important objectives: firstly,
to create permanent job op-
portunities. for recent gradu-
ates, and 'secondly, to en-
hance the growth potential
and, competitive position of
small and medium-sized bus-
inesses by helping these
firms to hire trained people.
The federal government
will pay fifty per cent of a
selected intern's wages, up
to'a maximum of $675.00 per
month, for a period not
exceeding twelve months. It
should be noted that this
contribution is not made with
respect to a position already
filled at the time of the
application, nor is it intended
to help create summer or
other part-time employment.
Payments will be made
quarterly based on invoices
submitted by the company.
Any payments under this
program beyond March 31,
1979, are subject to avail-
ability of federal funds for
this purpose..
