BY LYNNE NICOLSON
I hope everyone has been
able to stand this hot and
humid weather. The water -
holes in this area Should have
been getting a good work out
this week. We should be
thankful though, that we are
not experiencing the condi-
,.tions that they have in Texas.
They would welcome the
little bit of rain that we had
on Saturday. Well, enough of
the weather, it doesn't seem
to have made any one idle on
any account.
Many from the. area at-
tended the 6th annual Chick-
enfest held in Walkerton and
as usual there was something
to please everyone. The
midway was even bigger this
year than last and there were
many more contests as well
as a huge parade. Of course
the biggest event was the
Barbecued Chicken and the
arena was packed with
chicken eaters. The Chicken
Fest was not the only
attraction as there was a
Tractor Pull in Lucknow and
an Art Fest in Goderich.
Last week 'j missed a
couple of things in my
column. One was that Mrs.
J. Hughes ended her visit
much to the despondency of
her family and returned
home to Paisley, Scotland,
She spent six weeks in
Canada. Also that the Kin-
loss Girl's Baseball team won
their first game of the season
against Dungannon. Congra-
tulations, girls.
Summer is the time for
travelling and we have two
people who will be doing just
that this week. Mr. .and Mrs,
F. Page will be going to
England this Wednesday,
where they will be visiting
friends and relatives. 'Hope
the weather is pleasant for
the duration of their stay.
Mr. Lloyd Hanna, R. R. 1
Holyrood, had friends from
Manitoba visiting him last
weekend.
Weekly Funball held every
Thursday evening at the
Kinloss School has been
going fairly well and the
Recreation Committee en-
courage the children in
Kinloss Township, who have
nothing to do on a Thursday

Thought for the week: It's
Langside
BY LILLIAN YOUNG
A card party and presenta-
tion was held in Teeswater
town hall in honour of Bill
and Jessie Bates who moved
from their farm home to
Teeswater early in June. A
large crowd of friends and
neighbours attended. Prize
winners were ladies' high,
Mrs. Bill McInnes; ladies'
low, Mrs. Syd Smith; men's
high went to Jim McInnes
and men's low to Ken Scott.
Mr. and Mrs. Bates were
then called to the front and
Dave Moffat read the ad-
dress after which they were
presented with a tea wagon
and an envelope of money by
Bob Bregman and Bert
Thompson. Bill thanked ev-
eryone and said they still
lived on the sixth only in a
different place and Jessie
invited all to visit them. With
Mrs. Bert Moffat at the piano
all sang "For they are jolly
good fellows". A bountiful
lunch was served and a social
time spent.
