Among those listed as
injured in that DC7 crash at
Toronto Airport last week
was Dawson Pollock of
Brampton, formerly of the
Ripley area. Dawson trans-
ferred from the York -Finch
General Hospital to Humber
Memorial Hospital for treat-
ment of serious back injuries
as well as facial injuries,
according to the Toronto
Daily Star, Tuesday, June
27. At- 8.05 a.m. last Mon-
day, Jurie 26, the Air Canada
jet pulled out on the' runway,
! and five minutes later it had
nose dived into Etobicoke
Creek with its 102 passeng-
ers - two were killed - and
five crew members bound for
Winnipeg. Folks here wish
Dawson well at this time.
Noreen and Jean MacDon-
aid arrived back at their
home on Malcolm Street in
Ripley last Saturday evening,
from a two week vacation in
Western Canada, visiting
relatives and friends. They
flew from Toronto to Edmon-
ton. Jack and Betty Scott
took them to the airport.
Their cousin Mary MacDon-
ald, Toronto, met them last
Saturday and came to her
home in Ripley with them.
Last Saturday . evening,
July the First, about eight, a
man with his young daught-
er, Sheila, came to the door
here. Fran answered and he
wanted to locate the Jones
family. He said that they
lived in an apartment at the
main intersection. Fran in-
vited _ them into the house.
Further conversation reveal-
ed that the Jones family
consisted of Mr. and Mrs.
Jones and five boys. This
started the bells to ring. In
answer to the question "Did
they come from Newfound-
land?" he said yes. So it was
established that the five boys
were the "Newfie kids" who
were well known along
Ripley's main street a year
ago. At that time people
were afraid that they would
be struck by traffic. The
apartment in which they
• lived was above the former
drug store in the middle of
the main block. The last we
knew was that some time last
summer they had moved to
the country. Where in the
country we did not know. The
young man said that their
mail was still addressed to
Ripley. However it being the
\big night in Kincardine and a
holiday n one connected
with the post office was
home. Next the school and
while . Mrs. Floyd Stanley,
wife of the principal of
Ripley -Huron Central School
and secretary, Mrs, Nancy
Dawson, answered, they had
no definite information. Fin-
ally since they dealt at the
Ripley stores, they were sent
around to see Mrs. Pat
Brennan on William Street.
It seemed quitepossible that
the two couples with their
two ' young children ' would
have to motor back to
Toronto. They had toured the
area since arriving here at
three in the afternoon includ-
ing a wild goose chase to
Clam Lake south of Kinloss.
So if Mr. and Mrs. Jones and
boys are still in the area
perhaps. someone could tell
them that these friends from
Toronto were here.
Mr's. Dave Martyn reports
"changes at Huron Villa". It
was intended for last week.
"At Huron Villa the resid-
ents lived, through happy
times and not so happy
times. A few months passed
we all shared in the happi-
ness of two weddings among
the residents. But only this
past week our joy became
dampened w.hen Eugene and
Donalda Hutton who had
been tenants here at Huron
Villa since almost the begin-
ning, moved back to Kincar-
dine; their home town. We
all regret their departure and
miss them very much. While
here they served as our very
efficient and faithful custod-
ians and since it was their
own choice all we can say is
'our loss is someone else's
gain' ".
