Miss Christine Thompson,
former native of the 4th
concession east in Huron
Township passed away in
Oshawa General Hospital late
last Saturday night. For
many years she was a public
school teacher in the city of
Oshawa. The funeral services
will be held this afternoon
(Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at
MacKenzie McCreath
Funeral Horne in Ripley and
at the Ripley cemetery.
Christine was the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dan
Thompson. She attended the
Fourth Concession
(Flowerdale) school and the
Ripley Continuation Shchool
then to normal school.
The March meeting of the
Ripley and District Hor-
ticultural Society was held at
the- home of Mrs. Bert Irwin
in Ripley. The. business part
of the meeting was conducted
by the president and
secretary.
Program convenor Mrs.
George McDonald spoke
briefly on St. Patrick's Day
then introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. Nugent. She
spoke on Easter traditions
and symbols of many
countries. During her talk she
filled an Easter basket with
items pertaining to Easter
and wasenjoyed by all
present.
Mrs. Florence Liddle gave
the Courtesy Remarks. An
exhange of plants
followed.Lunch was served
by the committee and a social ,
hour was spent. The meeting
was reported by Mrs. George
McDonald.

Greenwood of Hanover, Jim
Greenwood Jr: of Elmwood,
Sandra Cardin of South Field,
Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. John
L. Farrell and Teresa of
Huron, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Elliott of Kincardine. Mr. and
Mrs. Don McCosh and Mrs.
Gladys Mason, all of Ripley
and Mr. George Colwell of
Lucknow all visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Greenwood
and family in Ripley for
Easter.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Dawson and son, Lewis, of
Toronto, spent Easter with
her mother, Mrs. Mary
(Donnie) MacDonald. Mrs.
Dawson is. ` the former
Marietta MacDonald.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Elliott
and Ian spent last week with
their son, his wife and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Elliott
and Lea of Upsala and also
visited with friends in Detroit
on their return trip.
Mrs. Joan Riley of Ripley is
in Kincardine Hospital for
treatment. Friends wish her
recovery. "
Spending Good Friday with
Mrs. Olive Needham of Rapid
City were Mrs. Marjorie
Thompson and Mrs. Wanda
Gawley of Purple Grove.
Dave and Valerie Gibson
and family of London visited
with hen grandmother Mrs."
Frances Gillies at Huron
Villa and with her parents,
Donald and Alma Gillies, in
Ripley for Easter.
Mr. and Mrs. John Coiling,
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Colling,
Mary and Jodi of Ripley and
Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Thompson of Purple Grove
spent Easter Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Rob Cumming near
Paisley.
The Purple Grove Women's
Institute had a good crowd .at
their card party last Wed-
nesday evening. The prize
winners were: high lady,,
Mrs. Don Robertson; high
man, Nick Peet of Ripley.
.Two lucky number tally
prizes went to Mrs. Frances
Gillies and Walter Collins.
The prize for anyone seeing a
skunk on the road to the party
went to Mrs. Marjorie
Thompson and for seeing the
first robin to Mrs. Catherine
Emerson. The committee in
charge was Janet Nixon,
Nancy Greenwood, Alma
Gillies and Anne McCosh all
of Ripley.
Miss Sharon Coiling of the
University of Windsor spent
Easter with her mother, Mrs.
Katherine Colling, in Ripley.
Then' they and Ernie Colling
had, dinner on Easter Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Colling and family.
