Play in "Little N.H.L." Tournament
Gilchrist played a strong
game in net in the first game
to earn a shutout as Lucknow
beat a Kingsville team 4-0.
Grant Murray scored three
goals while Alex West scored
thy, other. Brian De Groote
.assisted on three goals with
Todd Ritchie, Ross Pickard,
Brad Priestap and Tommy
Gilmore each getting one.
The win moved Lucknow
into the championship round.
Later in the day they played
Lancers lose series to Port Elgin
by Harvey Livingston
The Lucknow Lancers were
put out of playoff contention
when the Port Elgin Sunocos
defeated them Saturday night
6-5 to win the series in four
straight games.
The third game of this
series was played in Port
Elgin on Tuesday night. The
Lancers were keen for this
game, but not keen enough as
Port Elgin put 10 goals past
the Lancers' goaltender. This
game was the worst loss the
Lancers have suffered this
year: This put the Lancers
down three games and the
road ahead had a very dismal
look, as the Lancers were
struggling to stay alive.
But with their heads still
above water, the Lancers
went into Saturday night's
game determined to put this
series into the fifth game. The
Lancers led this game with
Port Elgin always having to
come from behind to tie it up.
For the first and second.
period the two teams had
battled to a 4-4 tie. The third
period saw Port Elgin take
the lead for the first time in
the game but the Lancers
bounded right back to tie the
game up.
As the game neared the
end, Port Elgin scored on a
very bad call from the
referee. But. the Lancers
fought in vain to tie the game
up and force it into overtime.
Time ran out on the Lancers
and they went down to defeat
6to5.
The Lancers were very
proud of themselves , for
making this final game one of
their finest games of hockey
this year.
After .thc players shook
hands and said thjeir good-
byes, the Port Elgin coach
admitted this was the hardest
