Bluebombers 41, Lancers down .tow in series BY HARVEY LIVINGSTON The Lucknow Lancers fired up and ready to go against the Port Elgin Sunoco's were shot down on Friday night in Port Elgin arena 10 to 2. For the first period and half of the second period the Lancers fought with Port Elgin on even ground. Though Port Elgin was leading 2 to 1 they were not getting through -the defensive checking of the Lancers. Then for some unknown reason the sky went dark for the Lancers and Port Elgin tallied for 5 unanswered goals. The Lancers kept on pounding away but could only come up with one power play goal to end the second period, down 7 to 2. The third period saw Port Elgin tally for 3 more goals. Though the Lancers rang the bells on the goal post a few times they don't count unless they go between the bars. But the game was not a total loss. Port Elgin won the game, but the fire ball from .Holyrood, Jim Murray, rang .Glen Morning - star's bell when his tongue got out of line in the penalty box, and just seconds after they were told they would have to leave the ice for being naughty boys, Glen's, tongue got out of line again and Jimmy had to ring his bell a second time for being a naughty boy. This is not Jimmy's type of hockey but even the best of us can only take so much and Jim had more than his share for the night. After the game the Lancers had a short discussion on what they would have .to do to prevent the Sunoco's from exploding with these short bursts of4 and 5 goal flurries and then hit the road for Lucknow to: get rested up for Sunday night's game. DOWN TWO Second game of the series started out quite a bit different from the 1st game. With the Lancers tactics set out, they went to the ice to find out Port Elgin wasn't going ' to wait for the second period to take a big lead and they tallied for 5 goals in the 1st period while the Lancers struggled to keep up with the play. Retiring to the dressing room after the first period was over the Lancers sat there. in silent night, thoroughly disgusted with them- selves"for the type of 'hockey they had just displayed on ice. They knew what they had to do to turn this game around, they lEll! SPRIN 4.1.n s • IoWL At Schmid's Jewellery See our. Before leaving the dressing room for the 2nd period the tough . little defenseman, Greg Hamilton spouted off and the Lancers went to the ice and started to use their bodies to play the game instead of their after thoughts. Port Elgin only tallied for one goal in that period as they were bounced around the ice by the Lancers. The Lancers used their bodies in the third period' again and managed to gain some control of. the game and pen Port Elgin in their end. Though Port Elgin scored once more so did the. Lancers when they put the pressure on and Mark Chisholm slapped in a ground shot from the point. The game ended in a 7 to 1 victory for Port Elgin and a 2 to 0 lead in the semi-final playoff round. It seems that Port Elgin likes to advertise in their news- paper about their so called policeman that they have on their team. Well we would like them to know that we have a Hog Back Growler that's going to be looking over his shoulder the rest of the series, A note to our fans that the fourth game of this series will not be played on Friday night, March 24th, due to it being Good Friday holiday, and the game will be played on Saturday night, March 25, at 8.30 in the Lucknow Arena. "Don't miss it." House League Hockey The Canadiens are the House League Consolation winners for this season. They won the title by defeating the Rangers 2-1. The game was as close a battle as the score indicates - in fact the Canadiens scored the winning goal with only 35 seconds left in the . game. Bryan Elphick and Kevin Lindsay scored for the Canadiens. Richard Jurjens scor- ed for the Rangers. The Bruins are the House League champions. They won the title in a game that was almost a repeat of the first game score 2-1 with the winning goal being scored with less than 2 minutes in the game. Bruin scorers were Mike Dennis and Mike Frayne. Ken Atkinson scored for the Black Hawks. -Lucknow Arena • Schedule • - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22 1:30 - 3:30 Public Skating THURSDAY, MARCH 23.
