BLAKE II, ALTON'
Blake Harvey Alton, R. R. 2
Lucknow, died suddenly in Univ-
ersity Hospital, London on March
3, 1978.
An active member of the
Lucknow District Lions Club and
the Country Curling Club, he was
a director of the Agriculture
Association and a director of the
Huron Cattlemen's Association.
He was a rnember of Trinity
United Church.
Blake's outgoing personality
endeared him to the community.
A lifetime farmer, he was born
in West Wawanosh, the son of the
late Albert W. Alton, West
Wawanosh, and the late Eliza-
beth Blake of Ashfield.
In May, 1950, he married Dora
Margaret Ballagh in Culross
Township. His wife and three
children, Stuart, Mary Anne and
Steven, all at home, survive. He
is also survived by two sisters,
Janie, .Mrs. Wallace" Hogeboom,
of Napanee and Bernadean, Mrs.
Leonard Ritchie, of Lucknow.
A brother, . George, of West
Wawanosh Township predeceas-
ed him.
Funeral service was held from
the MacKenzie and McCreath
Funeral Horne on March 6 at 2
p.m. Rev. A. Cook officiated;
assisted by Rev. D. Kaufman.
Mrs.' A. Pritchard presided at .the
organ.
Pallbearers were friends and
neighbours, Russell Irvin, Clay-
ton Alton, Russell Phillips, Ken
Alton, Don .Hackett and Alvin.
Alton.
Flower bearers were Warren
Zinn, Jack Alton,. Harvey Kilpat-
rick and Russ Button.
Temporary entombment , is in
Kinloss Mausoleum with spring
burial in Greenhill Cemetery.
KENNETH M. ROSS
Kenneth Matheson Ross died
in the Humber Memorial Hospital
in Weston on March 4th in his
64th year. He was a son of Mr:
and Mrs. Roderick Ross of
Lochalsh.
He was born in Ashfield
Township and attended school at
Lochalsh and Ripley.. He served
overseas in the second world war,
returning to Toronto where he
continued to reside.
Kenneth is survived by his
wife, Bertha, two daughters,
Brenda and Kimberley and two
sons, Donald and Kenneth.
Four sisters and three brothers
also survive: John in Detroit;
Mary West in Toronto; Christine
Phillipson in London; Jessie
MacKenzie in Florida; Irene
Nelson, R. D. and. William in the
Lucknow area. A private funeral
service was held in Toronto on
March 6th, spring internment will
be in Lochalsh Cemetery.
MARIA IRWIN
Maria Irwin, 85 Walnut Cres-
cent, London, died at Victoria
Hospital, London on March 10,
1978, in her 80th year.
Her husband, the late Emerson
Irwin, predeceased her.
She is survived by her children,
Carmen L. and Shirley "K., Mrs.
John Stewart, both of London.
She is also survived by her grand-
children, Ann Louise, Joyce and
Wendy.
The funeral was to be held on
Monday, • March , 13 from the
Chapel at the A. Millard George
Funeral Home, Ridout Street,
Rev,- John McKay, Riverside
United Church officiating.
interment is in Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery.

John O'Neill of Toronto
died in St. Joseph's Hospital,
Toronto on Friday, February
24 at the age of 64.
He was born in Ashfield
Township to John and Mary
(Sinnett) O'Neill.
He is survived by his wife,
the former Mary Sheridan;,.
children, Mary Anne and
John Kevin both at home;
three sisters, Mrs. Desmond
(Mary) O'Donnell of Ash-
field, Mrs. Cyril (Catherine)
Austin also of Ashfield and
Mrs. James (Dorothy) Moore
of Huntington, West Virginia;
and three brothers, Michael,
.Thomas and James all of
Ashfield.
A funeral mass was held at
St. Joseph's - ' Church,
_ Kingsbridge • on Tuesday,
February 28 at 10 a.m. The
Reverend.. Father Kevin
Sheridan, celebrant, of-
ficiated. Prayers were said at
McCallum Funeral Home on
Monday evening.
Inter-ment was in St:
Joseph's Cemetery at
Kingsbridge.
Pallbearers were Patrick
O'Neill, Joseph'O'Neill, Jerry
O'Neill, Dan Moore, Ken
Fitzpatrick and'-- Paul
O'Donnell, all nephews of the
late Mr. O'Neill.

Mrs. 'George Moncrief was
hostess -to the W.M.S. of Ashfield
Presbyterian Church on Thursday
afternoon.
A reception was held on Friday
evening at Lucknow Legion Hall
in honour of Mr. and 'Mrs. Neil
MacKenzie, newlyweds.
Mr. George Moncrief has been
visiting relatives in the western
part of Canada.

School on Thursday eyening
Mr. and Mrs. Ray .MacKenzie
of Toronto spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacKen-
zie and attended the wedding
reception for Mr. and Mrs. Neil
MacKenzie.
Mr. and Mrs: Oliver McCharles
spent a few days in Oakville with
Mrs. Allan McCharles and fam-
ily.
Mr. and Mrs. Rod Finlayson
and girls of Sarnia spent a few
days with Mrs. Gordon Finlayson'. -U
and boys. Also from Tofonto were
Miss arol Finlayson and Allan
Finlayson.
Mr. and Mrs. John McCharles
spent the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Oliver McCharles, Mr. and
Mrs. John Evers of Toronto .were
also visitors in the same home.
Master Donald Martyn, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Martyn met
with a painful accident on Sunday
morning, while operating their
snowmobile.

We are pleased to report that
Mrs. Frank Bongertman of Cul-
ross Township who had been a
patient in Kitchener Hospital is
able to be home again and is
feeling much better.
. Mr. and Mrs; Jim Spring
retnirned Thursday night after a
week's holiday in the Barbados.
They had never been in a plane
before and enjoyed their plane
ride very much. They went on
tours of the islands and had a boat
ride on the Jolly Roger which
looked like a pirate ship. .They
swam in the Caribbean and went
shopping one day for souvenirs.
The plane ride home at night was
interesting as all the cities they
flew over were lit up. The
temperature stayed at around 80° .
tp 85° even at night. They really
enjoyed their holiday.

Presbyterian Church with Rev.
Nugent of Ripley in charge. Dave
Moffat will be inducted as an
elder of the church at the same
- time. The Young Peoples' 'meet-
ing will be held next Sunday
evening at the manse.
