The 16th annual meeting of
Bruce Presbyterial United Church
Women met in Port Elgin United
Church on Monday, March 6,
1978. Theme of the meeting
"make a joyful noise", in faith
expressed through music, with
the Rev. Larry Marshall, of
Shallow Lake as theme speaker.
The meeting was convened by ,
the president of Bruce Presbyter-
ial, Mrs. A, B. Eagles of
Southampton. Mrs. Alex Heard
welcomed the over 250 delegates
and visitors on behalf of the Port
Elgin United Church. Mrs. M. F.
Byers read the greetings from
Erie, Niagara and Halton Presby-
terials. A. welcome was given to
the ladies from several churches
in Port Elgin and to Mrs. A. L.
Rice of Grey Presbyterial as well
as Officers from, Hamilton Confer-
ence U.C.W.; a courtesy vote to
Mrs. Grace Rainey for Designing
the covers on the .annual reports.
During the business session
reports of Divisions were given.
Stewardship by Mrs. , Ronald.
Slade; budget for .1978 by Mrs.
Ben Ruttle; finante by Mrs. D. A.
Brydon; leadership by Mrs. A. C.
Tupper; citizenship by Mrs.
Sheldon Wolfe. Highlights of
these divisions were the presenta-
tions given during the fall months
of 1977 at churches throughout
the Presbyterial •which attracted a
number between nine hundred
and a thousand ladies, Voting

annual to be held in Paris, were
presented and approved by the
A;, meeting.
Greetings on behalf of 'our
missionaries was .given by Mrs.
C. R. Rudolph of Haxioyer, who
with her husband has recently
returned home. frony.Haiwi. She
shared with her audience the
conditions and extreme poverty of •
these native people and .how. they
;have ;- been, eap1oited of their
natural resources by the affluent
countries. Both Dr. and Mrs.
Rudolph have also done mission
work in Zambia • at their own
expense and they stressed one is
never too old to go to the mission
field.
Mrs. Joanne Boyd led in a
midmorning Sing Song and Miss
Eleanor Locheacd gave a splendid
report on resources, program
Material and books.
The "In Memoriam" service
was conducted by Allenford
U.C.W. in memory of seventy -
'.nine deceased members in 1977.
The presentation of a gavel to
be used at Presbyterial meetings
was made and donated by Mr.
Nelson Howe and presented on
behalf of the donor by Mrs.
Clarence McClenaghan to Mrs.
Eagles. Courtey to the speaker
was ' given by Mrs. Wallace
Pollock and to the' outgoing
president by Mrs. A. C. Tupper
who also made the presentation of
gifts.
The nominating committee re-
port prepared by .Mrs. Robert
Turnbull .was given and Mrs.
Camille Lambert, president of
Hamilton Conference U.C.W.,.
conducted the election of officers
for 1978-79. Rev. Jas. Stockton of
Hanover, chairman of Bruce
Presbytery, installed the slate of
officers. Past president, Mrs. A.
B. Eagles, Southampton; presid-
ent, Mrs. A. C. Tupper, Harris -

The Kinette year is more than
,half over. It has been a busy year.
' Mrs. Jane Couchi was installed
as the Club's newest member on
February 21.
We lined up a bus and a van to
take the Senior Citizens to the Ice
Capades in Kitchener on Satur-
day, March 11. AIT seats were
quickly filled and • hopefully all
will enjoy this trip.._
We have completed'three quilts
to be sent to the U:S.C. of Canada
to be forwarded overseas.
The Club is busy organizing
this year's .Fashion Show, to be
held on Monday, April 3. at the
Lucknow Central Public School.

Cancer can
be beaten
WHAT'S IT WORTH TO YOU?
Mrs.. Jack Treleaven, Mrs. Jack
McKim, Mrs. Victor Johnston
and Mrs. Druce Hamilton attend-
ed a meeting of the Canadian
Cancer Society in Walkerton last
Thursday. The purpose of the
gathering was to launch plans for
the 1978 campaign , for' funds in
April. With the slogan "Cancer
Can Be Beaten! What's it worth
to you?", the Bruce County Unit
hopes to reach a $46,000 objective
this 'year.
The local group with many
volunteer helpers will be canvas-
sing in Lucknow and area during
the month of April. The Cancer
Society has greatly appreciated
the efforts of the community in
past campaigns and with the
continued support of Lucknow
District, . the Cancer Campaign
will be successful again this year.
The closing worship was given
by Hanover U.C.W. The invita-
tion to have the 1,979 Presbyterial'
in Kincardine was accepted.

The Kinettes are in the process
of getting a Block Parent Program
started in the town of Lucknow.

The afternoon .Auxiliary of the
Lucknow Presbyterian Church
Women's Missionary Society held
their March meeting at the home
of Clara •Crowston, Wednesday,
March 8. , Mrs. Austin Loree
chaired the meeting and opened
with prayer. The Bible Study was
prepared by Mrs. Rutherford and
taken by Mrs. Loree.
Thank you notes were read
from the ' Robb, and Campbell
families. Cards were passed
around for signatures:to send to
Members in hospital. Mrs. Philip
Stewart' gave ' an interesting
report on the Glad Tidings.
Mrs. Edna, Ross gave readings
on "Anywhere is a place of
prayer", "Spring" and "East-
er" .
Mrs. James Little gave the
topic, "New Missions for New
People", taken from our study
book, The Carribbean, which was -
very interesting and shows how
these new places are being
exploited. .
Mrs. Loree thanked all the
ladies who had taken part in the
meeting and Mrs. Crowston for
her hospitality. Mrs. Noble John-
ston closed iii prayer.
Mrs., Cora McDonald, in charge
of the books, had a display for
anyone wishing to order books. A -
social hour followed the meeting.
