Royal Canadian Legion Public
Speaking Competitions for Junior
and Senior High School students
took place in the Royal Canadian
Legion, Branch 180; Wingham,
on Saturday, February 18.. Con-
gratulations to Mary Luane Clare,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Clare, who , placed first in the
Junior High School, Division,
speaking on "The Holy Land".
Second place winner was Barb
Johnston,. who spoke on
"Hands". In the Senior High
School Division, Marnie Walsh
placed first, speaking on "Queb-
ec". Second place , winner was
Alliston Roberts who spoke on
"Music Judges were: Rever-
end John Swan, Minister of St.
Paul's Anglican Church, Wing -
ham, : Mrs. Iris Morrey, former
supervisor of the Wingham- and
District General Hospital. and.

Mr, Don Farnell, Director of
Effective Speaking, F. E. Madill
Secondary School, Wingham was
the chairman and presented
awards to the Junior contestants
and the school trophy to . Mary
Luane Clare to be placed in the
school,
Mrs. Don Farnell, Auxiliary
member of the Royal Canadian
Legion presented awards to the
Senior contestants. Mr. Dave
Hines of the Royal Canadian
Legion presented, the school
trophy to Marnie Walsh of the
Senior Division, All contestants
received gifts. The winners will
now compete in Goderich on
Saturday, March 4.
Mrs. Walter Clare attended the
funeral of Mr. Andrew Waechter
in Berkley, Michigan this past
week.

Lori Lynn prown, daughter of
Sam and Ruth Brown. of Port

Mr. D. J. Lassaline, usually

making his home with his

Dalton and family. Mr. Lassaline
celebrated his 92nd birthday last
December 2nd and we welcome
him to this community.

meeting on "Pornography in the
High Schools", held in " St.
Joseph's Parish Hall at Kings-
bridge on Wednesday, February
15 at 8.30 p.m.
Eleven i members attended the
Kingsbridge . Catholic Women's
League February meeting held in
the church hall with Mrs. Marion
Austin, president, chairing the
meeting. Father Dentinger open-
ed the meeting with prayer and a
scripture reading.
Ann Berry, Church . Life con-
vener thanked all the parishoners
who took part in the Offetory
Procession. Minutes of the Nov-
ember and December meetings
were read by Clarice Dalton. The
treasurer's report was given by
Mary Clare. Thank you notes
were read. from Father Ed
Dentinger, C.R.; Brother Carl
Voll; Jean and Anne Lalonde;
Pearl Congram; the family of.the
late Frank . Austin; Madonna
House and the Kingsbridge
Geneological Society. There was a
letter of thanks for donations to
the Bolivian Missions and the
Church Today, program was
discussed.
Pro Life representative, Teresa
Courtney, thanked all who renew-
ed their memberships and gave
donations. The Pro Life group
has acquired a • Fetal Model
Display which is available to any
group ,desiring it. • Pro Life library
books are being placed in all
Huron County High Schools.
Also, a film "Two is a Crowd”
will hopefully be purchased soon.
A pro - life booth' will be at the
International - Plowing Mitch in
Wingham next September. All
South Western Ontario pro life
groups will co-operate on this.
They plan to enter a Pro Life Float.

Father Dentinger announced
that the dance sponsored by the
Youth Club is to be held on April
1st from 9 until 1, in the church
hall. A P.A. retreat day is
planned for May 261h. •
The motion was made that the
C.W.L. sponsor the Canadian
Messenger. The World Day .of
Prayer is being held at the
Anglican Church in Lucknow on
Friday, March 3rd at 2 p.m.'Two
readers from Kingsbridge will
take part.
C.W.L. elections will be .held in
April, Marion Austin asked that
members consider taking posi-
tions on the executive for next
term. A reminder was given of
the Garvey Public Speaking
competition being held at the
school on Friday, February 10.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack VanOsch
will be celebrating their SOth
wedding anniversary on May
27th. Stephanie Vogt offered to
get prices on dishes for the hall.
Teresa Courtney motioned that
card parties be held • Friday
evenings in the parish i hall,.
following the Holy Hour: These
parties will start on February'17.
Teresa and Marion Austin will be
in charge of the first one. Ladies
are asked to tiring lunch. The
