respectively, last year.
Principals will now earn $32,-

The range for vice-principals,is
$3Q;700 to $31,800 with three
years' experience.
A clause _dealing with a cost of
living bonus was' deleted from
this year's contract. In last year's
contract, the clause called for a
bonus of $275 to each teacher, but
the anit-inflation board disallow-
ed it.
Even . though teachers were
never paid the bonus, their chief
negotiator, Ross Hendershot,
said the deletion of the clause was
a blow because it will be difficult
-to regain that clause in future.
Negotiations for 'this contract
began last February and came to
a halt in November.
Although trustee. George Lou-
cks, said he thinks the mediation
process is a waste of time,
Hendershot said Dr. Graeme
McKechnie, the mediator ap-
pointed by the Education Rela-
tions Coy nnission, was 'helpful in
bringing, the two sides to an
agreement.
. The board used the services of
a professional negotiator, Mich -
ale Riddell, • for this year's
contract, a move which chairman
Lloyd Ackert said "took the
burden off the board."
When talks between the two
sides stalled two months ago,
Hendershot said staffing, the
formation of a teacher -board
relations committee and retire-
ment gratuities were still items
under dispute.
The board wanted to delete the
clause dealing with the retire-
ment gratuities from this year's
contract, Hendershot said. Many
of its teachers will be retiring
around the same time and it will
mean the board will' have to deal
out a substantial amount of
money within a short period of
time,
>I The clause remains, but teach-
ers were unsuccessful in their aim
to forth a teacher,board relations
conmaittee.
