Ruth Buchmeier who writes the
South Kinloss column in the --
Sentinel has ,the advantage of
having moved back to the
Lucknow area after being raised
here and living away for a number
of years: She observes that the
town is mach the same.
really hasn't changed
much, the children who were little -
when 1 left have grown up, of
cdurse. That's the one big change
I noticed," says Ruth..
She hat been writing the South
Kinloss news since she moved,
back four years ago whin.she took
over th correspcindence from
Elizabeth Dickie who was moving
to Goderi
She says he has 'good co-oper-
ation .from e people she writes •
about,'but,•li e many of the other

phoning. It i only rarely that
someone calls er with news.

ious experience wo ing in banks.
She -enjoys work g and "feels
that, once it is in yo blood, .it is
almost impossible to op hi -cause
you get to used to se ing people.
Except fot about two ears when
her Carol, was, small, Ruth has'
worked since she graduated from
high school.
She worked in the ank of
Montreal in Lucknow nd in
London before moving out est to
Calgary, Alberta? where shk also
worked in batiks. She . welk„ to
CalgarY. in 1961 where she met
her husband, Ray, whoi?'1$„ she
married in 1963. They lived in
Calgary where Ray worked on
building construction.
• Ray had. been raised on a farm
near Calgary and always wanted
to farm. so 'theybought the farm'
where Ruth was raised from her
parents ...and moved.; to the 4th
Concession, Kinloss, four years
ago. •
Ruth says it was her husband
who ,had . o maker an adjustment ,
when they moved because she
was coming back to a conuriunity
where she knew everyone. He
Was moving from the city to the
country and to anew community
and environment. "He likes it
now','; she adds, "Home is where
you make it." '
Ruth likes to shop in the cit.
and Lucknow's location makes
shopping trips to the city infre-
quent, but the shopping is the
only thing she really misses about
the life. in the city.
She has always been involved
in community; activities, and

Last week was really an old
fashion winter. Not only did we
have high wind* and blinding
snow ' storms but some were ,
without hydro for about a day,.
Some had fireplaces and wood
stoves so some neighbours gath-
ered to have, a hot cup of coffee
and a bowl of soup,. There .were
also some that were storm stayed
away from their families or work.
Recent visitors with Mr. and
Mrs Jim liurbend Rob were Mr.

The Explorers. •
She took' up a 'new interest
during the past year when she
started ceramics by taking private
instruction in a group of five from
Eunice Cunningham. She had
seen ceramics at local craft
festivals and became even more
interested because people she
knows are taking up crafts in their
leisure time. She has made, a
bobble Holly doll, flower pots, a
spittoon, and salt, and pepperl"..i
• shakers.
•
She collects salt and peppers
and has about fifty pf th,em. She
has one set which she bought in
the town of Bismark, North
Dakota, which • has a special
significance because they are
from the town where her mother-
in-law was raised.
