The Ontario Medical Associ-
ation is\Chalienging an interpre-
tation. of\ redent legislatiorihat
would eve the Provincial Auditor
authority to look at patients'
Medical records.
Dr, Lazarus Loeb,l,„„ O.M.A.
president, said there are differing
interpretations of ,the effect o.
amendments to the Audit Act.
The O.M.A. does not agree with
the interpretation of the Provin-
cial Auditor that he anehis staff
now are„;.,authorized to Iola at
patients' Medical. reCords,
"It's unbelievabl that legis-
lators would enact laws allowing
more access to confidential med-
ical records at a time when every
conceivable trend is in the
opposite- direction," he said.
„The 0.M,.A. is advising doctors
to .refuse to show patients'
medical records to the Provincial
Auditor's staff or anyone else not
authorized under the Health
Insurance Act to see them, Dr.
Loeb said.
