A primary hospital can have either acute and chronic care keds, a 24- hour doctor on call and some clinics such as breast feeding and nutritional counselling. They also would have a 24-hour lab. A secondary hospital provides more specialised care including psychiatry and other services not availahle at a primary hos- pital. Both a doctor and specialist are availahle on- call 24 -hours. Goderich is named a secondary hospital in each of the task force's options. Much of the task force's feedback came in a series of open houses to present its three options. Task force members received more feedback on Monday when it spent half-hour session's with each of the seven groups that came to Mitchell to present their own options. The Clinton Community Hospital Action Committee—wanted the HPDHC tt juin the hoards of all the hospitals into a single unit who would take over the task force's role to restructure health care. It also sug- •turn to page 18 Huron Perth DHC Preferred option delayed until January 21 The Hospital and Related Health Services Study Task Force asked the Huron Perth District Health Council, on Thursday night, to seek a 60 -day extension from the Ministry of Health, in order to complete the Huron Perth hospital study. The task force will thoroughly consider all communi- ty input received from recent open houses and review all of the information prepared over the past live months before selecting a preferred restructuring option on Jail. 21, 1997. Detailed implementation an .?reinvestment planning will need to he completed prior to the comple- tion of the final report. Option -will be considered The task force has indicated that they would receive and consider as advice, a hospital restructuring option developed by the district's eight hospitals. 11 such an option is to come forward, it must he provided in writ- ing to the task force by 12 p.m on Jan. 14, and must he approved by the boards of the eight hospitals.
