The Lucknow Sentinel, 1996-11-27, Page 3Chisholm receives award by Pat Livingston Grant Chisholm is the 1996 recipient of the Lucknow and District Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award. The presentation was made at the Chamber's annual dinner and dance on Saturday evening. Chisholm's nominator, Irene Dickie, wrote that "his life exemplifies giv- ing." For over 40 years, Chisholm has been giv- ing to his community in various ways and contin- ues to do so. From coaching ball and hockey, to being an active member in the Lions Club and serving in various capacities at the local, zone and dis- trict levels and fundrais- ing for the Leader Dog Canine Vision program, Chisholms dedication to the community has been felt. He was named a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest honor a Lion can receive. Paul Carroll takes sick leave; Chuck Rowlaad :ting director The Huron County Board of Education appointed Chuck Rowland acting director of education at a special board meeting in Clinton on Monday night. "As a businessman, Grant has been success- ful too," wrote Dickie. He took over his father's fuel oil business in 1960 and the company has continued to grow. Chisholm served as pres- ident of the Canadian Oil -Heat Association. While Chisholm is an active member of the community, his family is always number one with him. Allan Scott, general manager, of the Lucknow Co-op, said there are four awards and .Lucknow received two of them; one for return on invest- ed capital and one for merchandise sales increase. "It's quite an accom- plishment," said Scott. "Our Co-op is one of the smaller member co-oper- atives." GROWMARK's members number over 130 between Canada and the United States. In other news from the Co-op, Scott says they are changing their annual meeting to Dec. 19 this year to "beat the snow." Normally the meeting is held later in January and over the last four years, the meeting has had to be rescheduled three times.
