Mary's Family Restaurant, formerly Country Citchen, is now owned by Mary and Russ Mackie, who took over from MaryLou and Doug Raynard on Oct. 28. Mary's no stranger to the restaurant business as she was employed for seven years at the Mayfair. Most recently she worked at Pinecrest Manor as a health care aid. The twosome decided it was time to be their own .bosses and so they embarked upon this new venture which'they are finding challenging and rewarding The transition period went very smoothly with the Raynards helping the Mackies all along the way. Add to that help from your family and the fantastic response from the public, you've got a winning situation, Mary said. Russ said, "I'm having Mary and Russ Mackie are the new owners of one of Lucknow's restaurants. Located at the west end of Lucknow, the business is now known as Mary's Family Restaurant. (Livingston photo) a ball, meeting a lot of new people and renewing acquaintances with oth- ers." He's also learning how to do dishes very well, says Mary. Some of the former staff are still with the Mackies and Mary's. daughter Sherri is anoth- er family member who's dishing up great meals. The restaurant still features noon hour spe- cials - either a full course Bruce County Board of Education hot meal, or soup and sandwich special. Mary's Family Restaurant is open from 6 a.m .to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 to 8 on Sunday. Compile case studies for health council by Pat Halpin A month after raising concerns about the effect hospital restructuring would have on students, the Bruce county board of education wants to get down to specifics. Last month, trustees said the Grey - Bruce District health Council health care steering committee neglected the impact hospital restructuring would have on the 10,000 students in. the Bruce board's 30 schools. Trustees also complained that they .had not been sup- plied with copies of the restructuring committee's newsletters or interim report. In response, the District Health Ccuncil sent the information, along with assurance that the restructuring committee is trying to "address the needs.of all Grey -Bruce residents" "A' specific request for comment on our Interim Report has not been made to any particular groups, but Council would be pleased to add you to our mailing list for subsequent newslet- ters," said a letter signed by Peter Bantock, Hospital and Health Services Restructuring Committee Project Manager. Bantock said in his letter that the board of education could have attended any of the 33 community meetings held in September. He noted the District Health Council "would encourage board trustees to work with their local hospital Boards during this transition period." Board vice -Chair Frank Eagleson wasn't satisfied with the District Health Council's response. He said it made. no mention of students, and noted that the board has not received the most recent newsletter from the DHC: It's time for the board to be clear about problems that would accompany the restructuring committee's proposals to close local hospital beds and emer- gency departments, according to chair Jennifer Yonssen. "Our first letter spoke in general terms. I think the time has now come to cite specific areas of concern in regard to our students," she said. High among those concerns are stu- dents with severe allergies and other identified medical conditions. "We have 1,000 students who are well within a five to 10 minute time period that they must have health care," said Director of Education Paul Martindale. "Not just first, aid, but a full range of services proyided at a local Hospital. Principals will be asked to put together anonymous case studies of stu- dents with "critical" health care needs. That fist will be taken to the District Health Council to illustrate the board's worries about hospital restructuring.
