The Lucknow Sentinel, 1996-08-07, Page 10Farrelis fly to.E0mont.o Jim and Fran Farrell and family and Donald Hutton fiew to Edmonton recently to visit relatives, Bill and Laurel Hutton and family and Darryl , and Sheila Pike and fam- ily. Donald stayed and visited Wayne Hutton at Rimby. The Patrons continued through Jasper, Prince George, and Houston to visit with Hank and Pietje Kragt and cousins, then on to Vancouver and Nanairno and then to Tofino, but no whales in sight. While in Nanairrio, they stayed with ,Brenda Grice and Douglas Anderson. They also vis- ited at Stanhope Holsteins before ,leaving from Vancouver. Lots of driving and lots of inter- esting stops. Sympathy is extended to the .family of the late Jim Hodgins of Kinlough. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lyman. Sutton while he is in hoS- pital in London. Robert Hunt -Berry of Ann Arbour, Michigan and Currie Colwell visit- ed. with Anne and Richard McCoshi-vand Mary Anne Kukoly. The meeting called to discuss the future of the Township Hall on Thursday, Aug. 1, was very well attended with a good cross-section of interested township citi- zens. Many good ideas were proposed for'reno- vations and future use of the hall. Thanks t� the .steering•committee for an informative meeting. Bell family gather for annual reunion The annual Bell. Reunion was held at Art and Olive Bell's farm on July 13. About 75 guests attended travelling from Goderich, Clinton, Bayfield Varna, Grand Bend, • Dashwood, Lucknow, Blyth, Port • Elgin, Toronto, Stratford and Kemptville. • The couple travelling the farthest, was Wayne, and Kimberly Lynch and daughter Sarah from Kemptville near Ottawa. The oldest person was Jean Bell, 89, from Bayfield and the youngest was Rachael Wilder, three weeks old, daughter of Jerry and Sue Wilder. Rog and and Eve Carter, Port Elgin and Russell and Jean Phillips, Lucknow, were the longest married couples at 47 years. . • • • Everyone • enjoyed • playing volleyball and • the bean bag games. The usual games were enjoyed with • the favorites still being the balloon water toss and peanut scrambles. • Art Bell had, the photo albums on display. Many old photographs attracted a lot of attention and comments. Of bourse Art is still looking for more old photographs to add to the collection, • Irene Markham had the Family Tree Book on display also. Orders were being taken for both • items. Lniekaow Sentinel, Wednesday, August 7, 1996 Page 9 Reds end season With 9 - 3 record Lucknow Reds defeated Exeter 14 to 12 and Mitchell 7 to 5 to end their regular season at 9-3. Reds scored runs in every inning against Exeter to sweep the season series two to zip. Lucknow's defence played better with only two errors and some fine plays. Exeter made it close in the bottom of the sixth as ,they scored five runs, Pitching staff for the Reds allowed three hits, struck out seven and walked 10. In the final game of the season, against a strong Mitchell team, the Reds led all the way to a 7 to 5 win. Reds scored two in the first and second innings, three in the third on six hits and two walks. Mitchell's pitching staff shut down the offence in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Leading the offence was Bob Raymond and Nigel Black scoring two runs each, while Josh Ackert's double and Adam Martin's double double collected key hits. Defence was led by centre fielders James Mann with a double play and Luke Drennan throw - mg a runner out trying to go to third base. Pitchers Nigel Black and Adam Martin, with catch- er Bob Raymond, limited the Mitchell offence to five hits, two walks and struck out six. With the completion of the regular season the team travels to Markdale on Aug. 9, 10 and 11 to compete inthe OBA Qualifier for 'E' division centres. Lucknow will compete against Markdale I and II, Dashwood and Beaver Valley. Their first game is against Markdale II in this double elimination playoff. Five teams will be looking to go to the OBA tourna- ment on Labour Day weekend. in any social events itechurch • A' euchre party was held Monday night in the Whitechurch hall with 10 tables in play. High lady was Ruth Conley; second high was a draw between Kay Rich and Euphemia Cameron with Kay being the winner. On Sunday they all attended a farewell picnic for Kim Farrier of Guelph, who. is • going to teach school' at the American School Foundation in Monterrey, Attelico.
