Employers and employees often forrge't lationsb, ips
that continue over many years, even whenthe employ-
ee moves ons Such is the case for Bob and Mary
MacNay, former owners for MaeNays General Store at
Amberley for 31 years.
On Sunday!' about 60 employees, who had Worked
for various lengths of time with Bob and Mary, were
invited to a,reunion at Point Clark. It was a tie to
reminisce.
The MacNays purchased the general store at the
junctions of Highways 21 and 86 from `Koss and Annie
Shiells. Bob, an Ashfield boy, and Mary (McQuillin)-
from Kinloss township were married -in December
1953, at St. Peter's Anglican church, Lucknow. In
1955 they went to Thunder Bay for five years, where
Bob was sailing on lake freighters. In 1960 they
moved to St. Cathetines and then in 1964 embarked
upon 31 years as owners and managers of the busy
genereal store.
Bob says they ran the store as it was for five years
and then in 1969 built a 32' x 40' addition expanding
the sales area to 2,600 square feet. In 1973 they built a

In May 5, Bob and Mary sold:. the store Bill and

was once a little country stere,
Now they are retired, Bob says they are keeping ,so.

Rhoda MacKenzie:was :one of the MacNays early
employees. She had worked for the former owners and
stayed on until 1978, splitting her time between her
tour business and the store. "She became a part of the
family," says Bob. And for Rhoda, the association was
as rewarding. "1 enjoyed it. had good bosses over
me," she countered.
Rhoda surnamed it all up when she shared a com-
ment from another earlier employee, Lynn Campbell,
who once said he worked with Bob and Mary. Feelings
like that are what make good employers and result in
dedicated employees.
