Mr. Hazlitt's class is practicing' lip - syncs" for a talent day. To raise money at our school for playground equipment we sold.raffle tickets. Congratulations to the winners. The raffle was a great success, gen- erating32424.109 "hark to Cathy, Leeman, Brigitte. Wolf, Cathy Moir. They have m this all possible. A thank you also goes. to Ashfield Township who hired the Grade 5, 5/b, and 6/7 classes to pick up loose paper at the Ashfield Landfill site. These hardworking stu- dents also contributed to the senior playground equipment, Thanks to there and to their teach- ers, Mrs.Worsell, Mr. Culp, and Mr. Liddle! The year is coming to aclose, and the Grade 8 students are beginning to think about graduation, which takes place on June 24. A yearbook is underway, with pictures, memories ofthe years at Brookside, and plans for the, future. This time is sial to our grads., Like many rural schools, they will split up and go to two different schools depending on where they live. Although .: new friends will • be made, that's hard on friendships that have lasted for many years! Unit 1 bMime Bradley y UCS' Unit 1 met at Ella Hackett s on June 4 with 13 members present. . Jean MacLeod and Lois Goodhue were in charge of the program, and Jean ConleyP JJye'd the auto harp for the hymns. Mrs. MacLeod ,opened with a poem A Dandy Church, The theme of the meeting was Mission and Service. Mrs. Goodhue read the scripture and Mrs. MacLeod gave the meditation on stewardship: "Are we as Stewards worthy of the trust ',given. us?" Mrs. Goodhue read "God so loved •the world that he gave..." Shirley Bolt read Celebration of Spring, Mrs. MacLeod gave the mis- sion study, on "Serving ri o Masters," which showed reflections on money and spirituality which couldn't be far- ther apart. The roilcall was answered with each one giving a short article from the Observer. After the business period, Mrs. Hackett read a fact and fiction quiz on memory. Unit 2 by Anna May Hunter Several Pinecrest residents joined. Unit 2 when they met there on June 4. Elsie Houston was pianist. Phyllis Morrison read an appropriate e 1,5. piece on spring. Helen Hackett read the scripture and devotions and Phyllis offered prayer. Helen read from the second reader, which was the red reader used years ago, The piece being 1, a 3 the story about the olds ` old, old lady, who Was blind and the boy that was half past three years old and had a crippled leg, playing hide and seek, although not ino'ving but guessing where. they might be hiding. Phyllis read another poezn Daffodils from the fourth reader. These readings brought back memories of school days for many of the residents. After visiting with the residents, the the business portion was opened by Laura Steffler. Ten ladies answered . the rollcall with an article form the Observer. Phyllis gave the reading of the least coin about Haiti, the poorest country in the west- ern hemisphere. The women and chil- dren suffer; some families are so poor they can't take care of their own chil- dren. Many men have been killed or fled,so the women are left to support the family. Children have to work and companies exploit the child labor.
