ORGANIC LA MM CARE.
Organic lawn care is a complete tawnconetruction, maintenance and

The goal of all lawn care products should be to enhance and pr -

soil of micro-organisms will ensure a healthy lawn.
Lawn grasses have a strong influence) on soil formation. One grass.
plant is capable of producing 376 mileof fibrous roots in a healthy
lawn. Many living organisms live around soil particles and root.
In one pound of root, ion°, there are 930 billion organisms of bacte-

gastric ulcets'and the
relatively new ,and
remarkable medicines that
actually .cure them. In this
week's column, I'd like to take
a closer loo.k • at those
medications and their 4elative
advantages. •
.
To recap, gastric ulcers are
actual lesions caused by excess
stomach acid inflaming the
lining of the stomach. While
ulcers used to be 'cured' by
removing them through
surgery, today, medications
known as Histamine H2-
Receptbr Blockers actually
inhibitthe secretion of gastric
acid, allowing ulcers to heal.
The first H2 -Receptor•
Blocker to be developed,
Cimetidine (brand name
Tagemet); came on the market
15 year's ago. Five years later,
Ranitidine (brand name
Zantac), was developed,
offering potency five to ten
times greater than Cimetidine.
Greater potency [aliens that
Ranitidine not only act&. faster
than Cimetidine; bier lastS
longer as well, and this leads to
another advantage: While
Cimetidine -must be taken three
to four times a day; Ilaniiidine

Nizatidine (brand name Axid).
Nizatidine is fully absorbed°
within 30 minutes to one hour,
with rapid effect and a very
long period of action or
treatment.
Which of these ulcer
medications is for you? Well,
your doctor may begin with a
prescription of Cimetidine or
Ranitidine. If these
medications are unsuccessful,
your doctor can then prescribe
the more potent Famotidine or
Nizatidine. Regardless which
medication you're prescribed,
adverse effects are usually
minor, and possibly include
confusion, dizziness or other
central nervous system -related
side effects.
One final comment: While
medications have come a long
way, so too has your doctor's
ability to detect ulcers. With
early detection, ulcers may be
avoided or cured altogether by
simply changing your diet -
making all of • these
medications unnecessary.
advancements, surgery no
