by Carol McKnight
Ernie and .Sharon Cluley of
Sangeen Township, would like
to keep Bruce County's agricul-
total heritage alive. They aren't
the only ones.
• The Cluleys are members of
the Druce County 'Heritage
• Association, au organization
that would one day like to see a
alaieUM* erected where the
county's farm history can be
viewed by urban and _rural
dwellers. -
The Association was formed in
October 1993 to promote agri-
culture and the preservation and
restoration f antique tractors,
machinery, artifacts, lore and
literature. It sponsors an •annual
steam show in au attempt to
raise the money needed to
achieve its goals. „.
The long term goal, said
Sharon, is to, owna piece of
property and develop it as
• Onisetnu, in conjunction with
the annual stern show event -
'She said the association would
like the museum to'operate as a
completely self-contained unit
and non-profit operation.
Ideally, the Property would be
made up of 100 to 150‘acres of
land that would be used to show
off the association's assets.

The Museum willbe open on a
limited basis for its 1996 sea-
son, with reduced staff and an
expected 50 per cent reduction
in it's operating budget.
John Wiley, the general man-
ager of the Museum, confirmed
the Museum plans to close its

vision is forproperty that will

meeting rooms, nurnertiWut-
buildings to accommodat, vari
ous types of museum items,
food concession facilities, grand
stand facilities and a show
parade route.
Agricultural crops would he
grown on the property each year
which would allow for demontratiOns of the various pieces of
• equipment at the annual steam
show, including such things as
• grain threshing, corn cutting and
husking, plowing, disking and
cultivating,
Ernie, who is president.ofthe
association, said, it is notlimit-
hig participating in the associa-
tion's dream to the boundaries
of Bruce County:. "Anyone is
welcome to participate from
wherever."This out -of -county
participation was demonstrated
• recently when a family from
• Elora offered to donate their
LiOrt grain thresher to the muse-
um. •
"It is encouraging to the exec-
utive and general membership
to -see the increasing interest
with items -being offered as a
donation to help bring our
museum goal to reality,"'he

said,
All donated items. wills be
given a donor's plaque by the
association, recognizing the
donor, along with a history of
the item, if supplied, for view-
ing putivses„;
Cluley said the association will
soon be in a position to issue
receipts for income tax purposes,
for monetary donations and ser
vices rendered to the association
by individuals, groups or orga-
nizations and businesses.
Because the annual steam
show is such an important event
to the ,association, Cluley said
.plans for it are well under way.
This year it will be held August
11 to 13 at Riverside park in
PaiSley and it will feature such
• events as 'a. horse treadniill,
steam traction engines .and Sta
tionary. boilers., antique gas
• engines, gas tractors, -antique
vehicles, a flea and craft market,
.puppet show and pony rides
for the younger set, along swith
parades and'entertainment,
Cluley said the organization
• has been so successful this far
because so many people are
„ interested in 'agriculture and
committed to the idea that as 4
team ` they can make the muse-
um a reality.. •
, 6
• Which are , Words the
ORHPC definitely likes to hear.
OR/IPC, chairman George
Underwood said his group's „pii-
Oritrconcern is to keep the col
lections on site. •• •
• • "They should stay in the
Museum,"` said Underwood,
"because they were given by the
'People f Ontario.-„"
A large publiC4neeting is
planned for the spring, but
Gaunt said it is more likely the
committee will host a large bar-
beque at the site this .summer as
a way to raise money and
increase awareness of the
'Museum's plight.
