"This takes money' from
one pocket and puts it ii
another. It tit oit't save the
taxpayer any money," said
Trustee Barry Schmidt.
Trustee Ruth Hirtenfeld
went further, warning that
oost'will escalate if other
municipalities follow
Kincardine's example.
if this snowballs, OUT
taxes are going. to go up sig-
nificantly because we're
going to have to charge that
(cost) back to all municipal-
ities," Hirtenfeld said.
Schmidt said Kincardine
wants .to make an issue
about the high proportionof
the property tax bill that
goes to education and the
oast of collecti pix for the
board. `
"But the town is collect-
ing a.big share of the taxes
early and ; earning interest.
That goes a long way.
toward covering their cost,"
Schmidt said.
Trustee Don Stobo
accused Kincardine council
of "talking out of both sides
of their mouth"
"Kincardine was quick to
send us a letter (last fall)
asking for a zero budget
increase. Now they want to
charge a 2 peri COW fee,"
Stob 3. said.
Trustee Dennis
Posthtu nus defended the.
system of :havingmunicipal-
ities :collect taxes for the
county and school board as
"the most efficient," but
added that after serving on
municipal council he can
understand Kincardine's
"frustr'ation."
"Everybody's getting
pinched. There's a lot of
frustration• out there,""
Posthumus said.
Trustee Carolyn Day sug-
gested Kincardine should
