Cour actionfiled .
to reinstate Murphy
Lawyers for the Power
Worker's Union (PWU)
filed an application on
Friday, seeking the . rein-
statement of several Ontario
Hydro . directors, including
John lvlurphy, PWU presi-
dent
Murphy says the .action
by the government, is a vio-
lation of the . Power
Corporation Act and is also
a violation of the 1994
PWU's contract which was
"negotiated in good faith."
The legal application was.
also filed on behalf of
Kealey Cummings, Michael
Cassidy and Jim McNeil,
three other Ontario Hydro
directors who were dis-
missed along with'Murphy
PWU lawyers requested
that Ontario Hydro post:
pone the next Hydro board
meeting, to be held Jan. 23,
if the court challenge con-
cerning the dismissals has
not been heard.
Ontario Hydro refused
and .Murphy -questions what
the real motives are for the
dismissals.
1 "What decisions are
going to be made that they °
need a politicized, rubber .
stamp board?" Murphy
wondered, in a press
release.
The Power Corporation
Act says
: there riust,.be: ;.

Ontario Hydro Director
before the .three year terra
expires.
In a' statement, Murphy
said he has raised questions
about thepurchase of ruin
forests in. Costa Rica and
utilities in Peru, as well as
the privatization of Ontario
Hydro.
'Promoting open debate
on these; contentious topics
is exactly what the; board. of
directors is supposed to do.
It's certainly not cause for

Murphy said the dis-
missals . amount 'to the cen-
sorship of the board to help..
pave the way for Bill
arlinger, newly appointed
Hydro chair, to privatize
the company and remove
employees' successor rights.
