The lowest number of December fire calls, by the
L` ucknow and District Fire Department, for the past 10
years, was recorded in 1995. Chief Peter Steer ;attributes,
this to the public being more fire 'conscious about wood,
stoves and. chimneys.
While December set a..record, so did the year 1995.
"Overall," says Steer, "1995 was one of the busiest years
we have had for sometime." Compared to 1994, total
responses to the fire hall increased by 37 per. cent.. In
1994 there were'43 responses, compared'to 59 in 1995.
Last year, the localfirefighters had a total of 48 work-
ing fire calls: homes - four, chimneys seven,- barns - six,'
sheds etc. Yr four, accidents - 10, grassbush 0, six, . and
vehicles • 11.
They responded to two, false. alarms,:,four :mutual aid
calls, and five other miscellaneous,. Y
