Special sessions will be presented by Canada's Champion gymnast, Allison Hiscott, and by members of the RCMP and Pollution Probe . -- Canadian folk singer "Matt" will perform and lead the campers in his composition, Join in the Dance, a song promoting peace and unity. During the camp, the 150 girls will participate in recycling and bluebird house projects to en- hance the surrounding environ- ment. They will also make teddy bears to distribute to distressed children as pan of the Good Bears of the World service project. The campers will celebr,te Simcoe Day with International performances and a giant fireworks display. "Shondecti" is a word from the Huron language meaning return to celebrate. The camp was planned to promote the world friendship of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts during the 80th anniversary of Guiding in Canada. Prior to the camp, Alesha Moffat and her family hosted '4 -year-old Aparna Vadlamani, of Richland, Washington. Aparna has been in Girl Scouts for approximately 6 years and will enter grade nine in the fall. She is studying towards a degree in engineering. In her spare time she enjoys gymnastics and softball and does babysitting. This is not Aparna's first trip to Canada as she has visited Niagara Falls. Joy Becker and her family have been host to Raelene Pearce, a 15 -year-old Girl Scout, also from Ricl land. Raeleire is a ---•grade-AO -tinder& irtrlibpes-to , •have a career in psychology. For Raelene extracurricular activities include softball, gym- nastics and acting lessons. During the school year, she works part time at a veterinary's office. Richland has a population of 32,000 and is located on the Columbia River. The largest employer in the area is the Han- ford Power Plants. For both girls the site of so much green acreageis rare, as they are accustomed to seeing sage brush. Temperatures in Richland run around 105 degrees, sometimes reaching as high 115. Air con- ditionersare a necessity. During their ,week with their host families,, Aparna and Raelene visited Grand Bend and enjoyed the water slides; toured Goderich and the infamous square and enjoyed a day'at Canada's Wonrland. When they weren't taking in special events planned for them they found out what it was like to live with Canadian families. Both girls were very complimentary in saying they found people in our area to be very friendly, more so than in the United States. From the short time spent talking with Aparna and Raelene one would have to say' they are definitely good will ambassadors for their country. • • 4i . irgi, ,pit ; ;: ,;r 1.00P. p.-4 • 9 West Waw ash Mutual Iusurance Coni M ' Dungannon 5 7922 : l . 1800-2644595 Farm Protection For:• Luelolow Sentinel, Wednesday, August 1311.-4Pa*e 3 E.ARRY Wo REID B.A. CliAM111110 ACCOM$rA$T *Auditing *Financial Accounting 'Pommel & Corporate Tax imitation *Personal Financial, Planning *Manual, & Computerized Bookkeeping *t+9omtgage & Amortization Schedules Josspttln a Bt.
