The Lucknow Sentinel, 1987-12-09, Page 11Concert is coming Kindergarten What an exciting month. We are busy practicing for our Christmas Concert and learning new Christmas songs. The snow is here now and we hope to spend lots of time outside playing in it. Grade O Ho, Ho, Ho, what gr t snow ! Just in time for our Christmas -"The Bears' Christmas". We have been practicing hard for next Wednesday and Thursday. Conor McDonagh has been the `Special Me' this week. We wrote letters to Santa and made Chrsitmas books. Grade One -Two The Christmas spirit is alive and well here. We are learning many Christmas words at our reading centres. We are also enjoying sharing the Christmas stories we have written. Paula Kwan wrote this one : One day, Santa was watching TV and he got hungry. He went to the kitchen. He looked in Mrs. Claus' fridge. He found Mrs. Claus' cookies in the fridge. He ate and ate. Then he ate and ate and ate and ate. He ate so many cokkies that he got fat. He dropped the galss bowl. Mrs. Claus ran down and said, "Look at yourself. What have you done to my bowl?" He rode on his sled. He fell down. He's going to lose weight. Grade Two -Three This class is right in the Christmas spirit and are going to Christmas activities each afternoon. We are enjoying working with our friends each day. Grade Three -Four Grade Three -Four is getting ready for the Christmas season. Our class put up our tree and we decorated it in art class. We also made Christmas balls with balloons, thread and liquid starch. We are finishing up our units on detec- tives and are just about ready to start our Christmas Activities. We are studying about Norway and their customs there. LCPC Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, December 9,1987 --Page 11 Grade Four -Five This week, we have been learninghow to multiply. Last Friday we had art and we made Mr. and Mrs. Claus. We are learning abour Bruce County. Carolyn Schuit and Ethan McNall won money for their poems and posters at Remembrance Day. Grade Five The Grade Five class finds themselves absorbed in their play. Props and stage work is progressing well. It is difficult to keep up with our regular class work, but we are coping. Grade Six This week, half of the Grade Six class were in the Carolfest. They are also doing geography projects and they have started a new unit in math called decimals Gradoi Seven -Eight Many projects are coming to an end for this class. The Grade Eights are close to completing their television production and the Grade Sevens are finishing their resource projects about their hiuse league countries. A lot of work has gone into these projects. Grade Eight The Grade Eights just finished a thrill- ing television show called "Brothers by Choice". The story concluded` with a happy ending. We are all busy working on geography assignments dealing with dif- ferent parts of Africa. This is a busy time of the year. Special Education Class The Special Education Class is the class of the month for December. They are finishing their plaques and are working on toothpick sculptures. They hope to have them on display for the Christmas Concert on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Turkey bingo held KINGSBRIDGF. of The annual Lucknow Carolfest was held at the United Church Wednesday, Dec. 2nd with a capacity audience enjoying beautiful Christmas music presented by various area churches and denominations. St. Joseph's choir again made a very suc- cessful an/much appreciated presenta- tion of several beautiful Christmas hymns. Saturday, Dec. 5th saw the annual St. Joseph's Parish Christmas Turkey Bingo held once again. The Parish hall was full with everyone competing for the prizes of 10 turkeys and several share -the -wealth. Donations of produce for Friendship House were collected in the church this past weekend to be shared with those less* fortunate at this Christmas season. A former parishioner of St. Joseph's, Leo Rosinko recently passed away. Friday, Dec. 4th, First Friday, was marked by Adoration of the Blessed Sacra- ment beginning at 3:00 .p.m. and a Holy Hour concluding with Mass at 8:00 p.m. Adoration from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. was by Pro -Life. Members of St. Joseph's C.W.L. along with their husbands enjoyed a delicious potluck Christmas banquet on Mon. even- ing, Dec. 7th in the Parish Hall. C.W.L. members brought Christmas gifts to be given to nursing home residents as well as donations to St. Vincent de Paul. Winners The winners drawn at the Shoot Party held recently at St. Helen's W.I. Hall have been announced and are as follows: Ross Errington was the high pink card winner with Muriel Moffat taking second highest. The high blue card was taken by Stuart Chamney while George Inglis placed second. Most Shoots were taken by Jim Finnigan and the Lucky Chair winner was Eva McGill. Congratulations to all. Eartlx .: Atthe school, intensive practice is underway for the Christmas Concert com- ing up on Tuesday evening, Dec. 15th. The children had an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday and on First Friday all classes attended mass whose liturgy and special ceremonies .were prepared by Jackie Simpson's Kindergarten class. Also on Friday the student body gathered in the gym for readings, prayers and songs to mark the beginning of the Se- cond Week of Advent which was Sunday, Dec. 6th. Prayers were led by Father Ed. The students of Sandy McQuillan's Grade 3/4 class were responsible for preparing the Ceremony and the lighting of the two candles of the Advent wreath to signify The Second Week of Advent.
