A mighty monument
December 6, 1987 was a special day for
the congregation of the Lucknow United
Church as they celebrated the 102nd an-
niversary of the dedication of their
building.
In 1884, the little frame church on
Outram Street had become altogether too
small for the growing crowds that would
attend to hear the words of Pastor Rev.
George Turk who brought a new gospel
presented in a new way.
Early in 1885, the land for the present
church was purchased from Mr. Hugh
McKay by the trustees of the Lucknow
Methodist Church. The architect was W.F.
Rutley of Chatham while the contractors
were J. and J. Large of Listowel. The cor-
nerstone for the building was laid on June
25, 1885. -
December 6, 1885 was a very important
day for the congregation of the Lucknow
Methodist Church as well. It marked the
opening and dedication of their new church
building.
The building was dedicated by Rev. J.A.
Williams who was General Superintentent
of the Methodist Church at the time.
Over the years, generations have come
and gone, but the church still stands as a
mighty monument to her spiritual and
material builders.

towards the theatre's capital campaign.
