Remembrance Day
by Steven G. -Adams, age 12
I don'treally like war but I like to see
movies on war. I always wonder what it
was like. I guess it was real terrible. And if
you wanted to kill theP erson who started
the war then you'd start another one and so
it never stops. My Grandma told me that a
kid from our family, went to war when he
was 14 and he died at the age of 14. I
thought that that was sad and both my
great grandfathers died in the war. Today
it would only take seconds and there would
be no more earth. Anotherthing is today
everybody is buying nucler bombs and
missiles. If theystopped, all that money
PP
coulduse b a for the sick and the hungry.
gry.
All the movies now don't really show back
then and I guess it shows a little what
would happen now. They just wasted lives
of people, ,the land, plants, and animals.
Another thing I'd almost forgotten to men-
tion that it is so sad to walk through a
graveyard and see the markers of all the
people who died in the war or to see it on
television. Back then, everybody used the
black people for slaves and now they are
free living in Canada, but it took a civil
war to free them. I am glad I live in
Canada. It's free and I hope it stays that
way. !
Remembering
by Jodi Webster, age 12
I see the tears trickle down her face,
As she stands before her husband's place.
He is buried beneath the lonely cross,
And she remembers that long ago loss.
She was just a new bride' when he left to
fight,
To join the soldiers in their battle for right.
She remembers those letters she held so
dear,
Telling how their love helped him over-
come his fear.
"I saw my friends die before my eyes,
and I could never shut out their horrible
cries.
Dear God, please stop this senseless
wastse,
Give us peace and courage; and in a great
haste.
If I need to die to bring freedom for you,
Darling, remember the love we have is so
true •"
As she places the wreath upon his grave,
Her hands did tremble, but she was so
brave.
Had this war affected the world today?
Was it a better place for children to play?
Have we learned to show respect and love
for others?
and with Ggd's help are we living like
brothers?
As I watched her leave the cemetary
today,
I realized the price those people did pay.
Would I have been so willing to give?
So that everyone else in freedom might
live.
Remembrance Day
by Michelle McClinchey, age 9
Sarah and Paul are worried about their
grandpa because he is in the war. They are
praying that he is well. They are at their
grandparents' house for vacation.
Paul asked, "When will grandpa be
home?"
"Heshould be home in two weeks" said
grandma."Who Who knows he might not be
coming ..back."
"I hope so" said Sarah. At that moment
Paul, Sarah and their grandmother were
really hoping that he would come back. In
two weeks their grandpa had not returned.
Now they were really worried. And for
three days they did nothing but mope
around the house. On the third day they
were all in thee livingroom and suddenly
someone said, "What are all the gloomy
faces for?" Their grandfather was back
and as -soon as he stopped hugging
everyone hetoldthemall i .

November llth is Remembrance Day
A time to thank all men who fought for our
freedom
Someone had to pay
And now we have our homes and families.
When I hear the sound of the trumpet
I remember
I remember Remembrance Day is ,a
special day
Because now our generation has freedom.
Remembrance Day is a time to remember
and be thankful
We haveour skipping ropes and soccer
balls
We can all run computers and dance
Remembrance Day is a special day.
Remembrance Day is old soldiers
marching;
Proud of their past,
Medals shining and now their only
keepsake
° The years have gone fast.
Remembrance Day is history,
A time for us to hear about our country,
We can open a book and read about it
We are thankful. •
