All students are preparing for the good year ahead. Grades 1 and 2 Mrs. Black and her grade one and two class welcome Daryl Aitchison from Brookside and Micheal Beynen from Wingham to their class. The . class would like to give special thanks to Mr. Andrew who supported their apple unit with so many different kinds of apples. It was fun sorting, identifying and eating them. They were yummy. Grades 2 and 3 Twenty eight eager little students arriv- ed in Mrs. Campbell's gradestwo and three classroom. Everyone had an en- joyable holiday and are ready for a busy year of learning. Grade 4 The first week of school for Mr. Dennis' grade three and four class has been a very busy one. On the first day they looked in surprise boxes and they saw themselves in mirrors which were located in the boxes. They also discussed their summer and their favourite thing. They also reviewed addition and sub- traction in math, did a familiar list of words in spelling and some reading and comprehension activities. Grade 5 Mr. Bennet welcomes back a Large class of 31. They are looking forward to getting things underway and plan to do their best work this year and signed a contract to prove it. Field trips will form a part of the grade five class courses and they are pleased to be involved with the trips. Grade 6 Many unusual textures of school equip- ment were discovered by Mr. Burkhart's grade six class as they looked at objects through a microscope this week. Mr. Burkhart's class visited the polling booth in Lucknow. They returned and helped set up a polling booth for grades five to eight. The results were: Elston (Liberal) 89; Snobelen (PC) 17; Peterson (NDP) 14 and Keet (FCP) 5. Grade 7 Mr. McKeon's class had a busy week sharpening skills they had not used since June. Already they have learned a new mathematical skill; that of expanded nota- tion. Also, they have started their first language. project. They are looking for- ward to the many new challenges of grade seven. Grade 8 The first week back to school after a great hot summer has been a busy one in grade eight. The week started off with a game of soccer on Tuesday, which showed the fine team spirit and good shape of the class. The whole class welcomes Mrs. Armstrong -Gibson into their room. They are looking forward to a challeng- ing year covering such topics as Southern Continents, Children's Lit, Greek Mythology etc. Library Mrs. Maclntyre is holding a 'Back to School' book fair from September 15 to 17, noon - 4:30 each day. This will take place at the LCPS Library. Books from a new com- pany will be on sale and everyone is welcome to attend. Sports Soon we will start training for our school cross country team. Members will be at- tending a track meet in early October. The boys and girls soccer teams are forming with Mr. Bennet and Miss Matte as coaches. Mr. Pike's Reminders This year we have a full house with 257 students attending. As we only predicted 250 students, some of the classes will need to be shuffled to accommodate such a large number. We are working on a float for the Lucknow fall fair this weekend. vie Night school flyers are soon to' be distributed and we hope to offer some in- teresting courses.
