Celebrating
anniversaries
By Marie'Park
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Grant
Johnston, nee Audrey Phillips, who were
married on Friday evening, August 28th in
Dungannon United Church. Grant is the
son of Jean Johnston and Audrey is the
daughter of Bill and Irma Phillips.
Congratulations to Tom and Deloris
Culbert on the occasion of their first an-
niversary on August 25th, to Elmer and
Aileen Trommer on their 43rd anniversary
on August 17th, and to Graham and Bessie
McNee on their golden wedding anniver-
sary on August 28th. An open house was
held on Sunday at Nile United Church for
this well known couple and many people
attended.
There were 12 tables of euchre at the
Seniors Centre on Wednesday evening.
High man was Art Stewart and low man
was Thys Groen. High lady was Louise
Brindley and low lady, Gloria Pearson.
Happy birthday was sung and cake cut for
the following people: Gertrude Park and
Gord Schultz, August 3rd, Ted Bowers,
August 6th, Marie Park, August 11, Isabel
Kilpatrick, August 21st, Cecil Pollock,
August 28th, and Lloyd Walters and
Kathleen Glen, August 29th. Don't forget
the general meeting on Wednesday,
September 9th at the centre.
Mrs. Lee Shetler has been having a few
anxious moments of late with T.V. and
radio coverage of the unrest in the
Phillipines, because her daughter Jane is a
school teacher there in Manila. Jane
reported in a telephone conversation to her
sister Joanne of Burke, Virginia, that
despite all the bombing and firing outside
the compound where she lives, she feels
safe as they are right beside a U.S.
military base and would be the first
evacuated if the need arises.
Gertrude Park enjoyed a Sunday visit
with her daughter Verna and her husband,
Tom Hallam in Auburn.
Marie Park, her daughter and son-in-law
and Vicki and Ted Henry of Goderich
motored to Peterborough on Sunday with
Todd Park. Todd will be attending Sir San-
ford Fleming College there this term in the
Law and Security course.
