Summer is almost here and the students
at LCPS are having a great time winding
up the year.
Kindergarten
What a wonderful time the kindergarten
class had on their trip with the grade one
class to the London Children's Museum.
They had an inside look at the life of the In-
uits and had a chance to try their toys and
tools. They also saw what the life of a child
long ago was like. They were able to dress
up, go to school and enjoy working at the
general store and train station. Monday is
play day so they get to come to school all
day. Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
kindergarten graduation exercises will
take place.
Grade 1
They have been busy finishing Fall Fair
work this week. They made pioneer
stories from the things we learned at the
museum in London. Friday they watched
a movie about a wilderness family.
Grade 2
Grade 2's had more interesting visitors
to their classroom this week to speak to
them about Community Helpers. We
would like to thank Mrs. Gibbons, Mrs.
Redford, Mrs. Jones, Mr. Oustin and and
Mr. Passmore for sharing information
with us regarding their jobs. They all did
excellent presentations. Some very impor-
tant points were stressed throughout their
discussions. They were: liking your job is
very important, being responsible on the
job is necessary, each job has a service to
give to a community, everyone must work
together to do the best job possible.
Grade 2 visited the following downtown
businesses as part of a unit on community
affairs: dentist, church, Montgomery's
Garage, bank, florist, bakery, post office,
fire hall and Super Scoop. Lucas Thacker
and George Carter received news that
their story and poem was printed in the
book entitled "Poetry and Prose from
Bruce County Schools." Lucas' story and
George's poem ,was picked out of several
entries from across the county. They
received a copy of the book from the board
of education.
Grade 3
Grade 3 was delighted to have Mrs.
Mowbray whose family has been living in
Africa. She showed slides, answered ques-
tion and brought many articles from
Africa in to show us. We are happy to
welcome Carolyn Schuit from Walkerton
to our school.
Grade 4
The grade 4 class enjoyed their trip to
the Bruce County Museum in Southamp-
ton. They met their penpals. The class
saw four exhibits: the log schoolhouse, the
general store, an industry and trade
display. The log house was originally from
the Kinloss area. They were able to
barter, have an old-fashioned spelling bee
and tried shingling, needlepoint and log
sewing. They have also been busy working
at measurement centres and independent
bird research.
Drama
The drama club held their final meeting
this week, assessing the year's work. They
enjoyed their activities very much and
finished the year with a union -
management role playing activity. Mrs.
Broad enjoyed working with the club im-
mensely and thanks them for their
cooperation.
Grade 5
The grade 5 class is happy now that
school is out. This week with Mr. Bennett
they have been working on fall fair work
and percentages.
Grade 6
The grade six class is going swimming
at the Lucknow pool on Tuesday and
Wednesday. They are also finishing up
their exams for the year.
Grade 8
The grade 8 class has returned from
their trip to Ottawa. Two members of the
class, Jill Campbell and Cailin Clarke,
were chosen to compete in the County
French contest. However, since the con-
test was held while the girls were away,
they were unable to attend.
Library
Library lotto winners this week were
Colleen Knoor, Jackie Murray, Kerri
Skillen and Vanessa Breckles.
Family studies

dessert were on the menu for the grade 6
and 7 while the grade 8's enjoyed a Chinese

which they made on display. Special
thanks to Melody Broadfoot who sewed the
quilt together.
