The Lucknow Sentinel, 1987-05-27, Page 7Euchre played in village There were 11 tables of euchre at the Seniors Centre on Wednesday evening, May 13. High lady was Lois Haggitt while the low lady was Marie Button. High man was Harvey Sillib with the low score en- ding in a tie between Elmer Trommer and Cliff Menary with Elmer winning the cut. On Wednesday evening, May 20, there were 11 tables of euchre at the Seniors Cen- tre. High lady was Olive Gilbert and low lady was Lois Haggitt. The high man prize went to Raymond Haggitt with Eldon Culbert taking the low man prize. On Wednesday, June 15, the Seniors are sponsoring a second euchre tournament with registration between 7 and 8 p.m. All welcome. Sympathy is extended to the McNee families on the death of Robert Walter Vella on Monday, May 18 at CFB Lahr, Germany in his 30th year. He was born in Wingham to Walter Vella of Greenwood, Nova Scotia and Joy ( McNee) Vodden of Londesboro, Ontario. Congratulations to the following people celebrating May birthdays: Mike Austin, Angela and Arletta Glenn, Barry Nivins, Brad Park, Amy Jo Glenn, Larissa Sproul, Tammy Pengelly, Jason and Justin Boel, Robbie Roberts, Cory Robertson, Shawn Stothers, Luke Hartung. Don Carmichael, son of Sharon and Don Pengelly of the village, has graduated - from a two-year pest control program at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Lindsay. This fall he will enter the Health Inspector Program at Ryerson Polytechnical In- stitute, Toronto. At present, he is employed in Toronto. Congratulations, Don! Mrs.. Joyce Pocock of Dawson Creek, B.C., along with her parents. Frank and Mary Glenn of Lucknow, has visited in the village with old friends during the past two weeks. A welcome to the village to Bob and Bet- ty Mole who have purchased his mother's home after residing on the sixth of Ashfield' for many years. Margaret is now residing in Hensall and from all reports enjoys it very much. Congratulations to Tim and Wanda Hodges on the birth of 10 lb 4 oz. Cory Michael, on Sunday, May 17 at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich. Mrs. Evan Keith, a delegate from the Synodical Society of Hamilton and London WMS, attended the WMS Council and also the Congress of the Presbyterian Church which was held at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Robb, Sylvia and Denny of Cambridge visited on Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. William Dickie and family and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Needham. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ira Dickie on the holiday weekend were: Mr. and Mrs. Denver Dickie, Alexander and Deanna of Sutton, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Dickie, Erin, Allison and Curtis of Markdale, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dickie, John Wilson and Tammy Wilbee of Unionville. Mr. and Mrs. William Dickie, Karissa and Shea spent the weekend in Rochester, New York. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Buckton enjoyed a six-day bus trip to Washington D.C. last week. and Marie Park and the 24th great grand- child for Gertrude Park. Dennis Copeland and Tracy Pullman of Galt were united in marriage at Geneva Presbyterian Church in Chesley, Ontario. on Saturday, May 16. The dinner was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Chesley with a reception at the Chesley Communi- ty Centre. Dennis is the son of Ray Copeland of the village. Ray and Gwen attended the wed- ding as well as Ray's sister Dolly Par- tridge of London and Andy and Liz Miedema of Port Colborne. This past week Ray and Gwen visited - with Dennis and Tracy Copeland at their home in Galt. Margaret Mole of Hensall visited in the village for a couple of days last week. Margaret enjoys her new home very much and and anyone is welcome wat any time to visit with her. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Finnie, nee Denise Maize, who were mar- ried on May 16 at the Dungannon United Church with the reception in Lucknow. They are now residing in Dungannon. Callers with Elmer and Gail Cook and Kevinover theweekend were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cook of Goderich. Sympathy is extended to Jean and Harold Elliott, Donald and Helen on the death of their brother-in-law, brother and uncle Arden Barker of Milverton on Tues- day, May 12 in his 59th year. His wife was the former Helen McCreight, a sister of— Jean. ` Jean. Burial was in Milverton. Sandra and Jim Rivett and Dick and Noreen Park of the village spent Sunday in Southampton at the Bruce County Museum viewing the artwork from the Grenville Mission in Raleigh, Newfoundland. They also ha supper in Kincardine before returning o Dungannon. Alan Ri tt, son of Jim and Sandra Rivett eche village, had the good fortune to win a key after giving the correct answer on CKNX-FM's "Safari" game. Some time in the near future, Alan will be travelling to Walkerton to see if the key will unlock a van which the contestants could win the use of for the summer as well as some camping. gear.
