Author's Conference. Much effort and time
is being put into the publishing of each
book.
Kindergarten
The Kindergarten class were joined by a
variety of bears at a picnic on the school,
lawn. The bears enjoyed a lunch of honey,
crackers, juice and bear cake. Such games
as Bowling for Bears, Guess the Bear and
Bear Races were enjoyed by all.
Grade 1
This has been a busy week for Grade 1
students, finishing up their books for the
mini Author's Conference on May 29.
Everyone feels yery proud of their very
own book, all typed and beautifully
illustrated.
Jo -Anne Harris is "Special Me" this
week. She brought a whole book of pictures
to show the class, and Tim Visser and
Heather Bonnet were "Happy Birthday"
people.
On Friday, the class made a Terrarium
to keep the pond creatures in which they
have been learning about.
Grade 2
Grade 2 has really been enjoying Gavin
Colwell's stories and pictures about his
vacation in Florida. They have decided to
go along with him the next time he goes to
Florida.
The class's "Special Me Photo Album"
is all finished and is going home each night
to a different family. The students hope the
parents will enjoy seeing pictures of each
member of the class plus reading a short
biography about each person. The class
appreciates the book being returned each
day so that each child will be, able to share
the book with their family before the end of
the year.
Grade 3
Grade 3 has been busy making books this
week. They listened to the story of Paul
Bunyan and decided they would exag-
gerate 'too. They wrote some very "tall
tales".
Grade 4
To begin this week, the Grade 4 class had
a pizza celebration to mark the end of their
work on aivision ana begin their unit on
fractions. Math has nver been more
delicious!!
The students were very pleased to
welcome Mrs. Edith Webster to the
classroom to complete their study on
Australia. She had many fascinating
stories and lots of interesting objects and
pictures. She held the class spellbound for
over an hour.
Their bookprints are almost walking out
of the classroom. The Grade 4 students
have read almost 500 books which have
been recorded this year.
Grade 5
the Grade 5 class had the pleasure of
performing their instrumental music class
in front of the school on Friday morning.
Their study of fractions continues. Thus
far they haven't experienced many snags.
Fractions appear much easier than they
originally thought.
They have also engaged in many co-
operative activities in which many in-
teresting things have been created.
Grade 6
This week went by very quickly as the
students worked hard at completing a
small story book as part of their creative
writing program.
After studying , a unit on rocks and
minerals, it's good to see the variety of
Samples of rocks the students have at
home and are bringing to show the other
students.
LCPS
Grade 7
Writing is simply hard work. After ac-
cumulating vast quantities of data, they
found that a reasonable presentation to
clearly show what they have discovered is
altogether a different skill.
However, after a number of false starts,
they have discovered that they can be suc-
cessful and do quality work. Rewarding
results have been produced.
Grade 8
The Grade 8 class has been studying
"Conflict" in a series of TVO video presen-
tations called "Brothers By Choice". It is
interesting to note how small issues can
become terrible dividing points between
two sides. Usually the issue is something
that explodes into a mess just because the
opposing sides refuse to take the time to
talk and air each opinion; a good lesson for
all of us.
Mr. Pike's Comments
The students have voted on how to spend
the Pomander profits , and the three win-
ners are: 1 - A new baseball diamond. 2 -
New soccer nets. 3 - video recorder.
Two -pitch starting at
from page 5
and Heather Jefferson.
Grade 8
Grade 8 students started their two -pitch
ball schedule on Monday. They are prac-
tising and getting their muscles in shape to
do their best at Track and Field Day on
Thursday, May 21.
The class is also still working on their'
puppet play.
Survey
This week's survey question for the
juniors was, "If you could go anywhere in
the world where would you go?"
From Grade 1, the reporters asked Lisa
Menary who said "to her friends place"
and Tasha Godfrey who said "Toronto".

McNee and she said "Dungannon". Mike

don, England. From Grade 5, the reporters
asked Denise Black who said "New York"
and they also asked Michelle McClinchey

many pets does your family, have?" From

pets. Randy Suffern has three. In Mrs.
Tebbutt's Grade 6 class, Murray Hunter
