WI rollcall concerns weather
By Mary MacGillivray
PRO
The Lucknow Women's Institute held
their May meeting in the Town Hall on
Tuesday.
A delicious dessert and tea were served
by the committee in charge. The Ode was
sung with Mary MacGillivray as the
pianist.
Dorothy Brown chaired the meeting for
the business part. She welcomed all and
Edna Young, the new secretary, read the
minutes of the last meeting and conducted
the rollcall. Eighteen members and two
visitors were in attendance. The rollcall
was answered by "a way our ancestors
predicted the weather without radio and
television." The financial statement was
given by Mabel Whitby, the new treasurer.
Delegates were chosen for the District
Annual to be held on May 19 at Belmore, A
letter was read from the scouts asking for
a donation. It was decided to hold the an-
nual picnic in Goderich in June. It was
voted that the bonds in Victoria and Grey
be renewed..
Mabel Whitby chaired the meeting for
the program. 0 Canada was sung and
Mabel gave a reading. Annie Shiells gave
the motto "Eat, Drink and be Wary".
Mrs. McFarlane gave a reading and
Elsie Houston spoke on the ACWW and her
trip to Ireland. This was very interesting.
She stressed how very important "Pennies
for Friendship" are. Mabel presented
Elsie with an envelope and she graciously
gave it back to the Institute to be handed to
the Pennies for Frienship Fund. Elsie
showed some very interesting literature
pertaining to the convention.
"The Queen" was sung to end a very en-
joyable afternoon.
