Pine River UCW
The May meeting of the Pine River
United Church met Tuesday, May 12 at the
church. •
President Mrs. Delbert Wilson chaired
the meeting and with the opening hymn
For the Beauty of the Earth being sung.
The purpose of the UCW was read in
unison by the 19 ladies present.
Mrs. Wilson read a peom and also an ar-
ticle that had been taken from the
Reader's Digest.
The rollcall was answered on How to be
a good Christian citizen.
Anne Boyd read the minutes of the last
meeting and the treasurer's report was
given by Margaret Ferguson.
The collection was taken and was
dedicated by Maithel Wilkins.
The meeting was then turned over to the
convenor Gail Rutledge. The hymn Lord of
Light was sung. Gloria read an article on
Plenty.
The scripture was read by Norma Hum-
phrey and was taken from Exodus 3, 7-10
and from Luke 4, 16-20.
Gloria then led in prayer and gave a
reading.
A skit was given by Barb Messenger and
Margaret Reid, called Housewives
reading on Modern Day Problems.
The study this month was on the
aboriginal people of Australia. It was very
interesting. The women are much closer to
each other and stay more together than in
our country. The men there hold a great
respect for the women, and they are now
getting into politics and are held in higher
respect than the women of the white race.
The hymn From the Slave Pens of the
Delta was sung, followed by Grace and a
bountiful lunch provided by the lunch
committee.
The June meeting is a special meeting,
the 25th anniversary and will be held at the
Pine River Church, Tuesday, June 9, 7:30
p.m. All members and former members
are welcome.
