(Alan Rivett photo) Holyrood meet Thursd; for Canadian Industries The Agriculture and Canadian In- dustries meeting of the Holyrood Women's Institute was held on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Weir Eckenswiller. 'Mrs. Harold Smith o d S t presided and welcomed everyone, and all joined in sing- ing the Institute Ode. Mary Stewart Collect was repeated. The roll call was "A rural sound I like to hear." Mrs. Douglas . McEwan read the minutes of the April meeting and gave the financial report. The Bruce South District Annual Meeting will be held at Belmore on May 19 with the theme "Home is where the heart is." An exhibit will be at the Museum at Milton from June 15 to September 7. Plans are underway for a supper to be held at the hall on June 21. Mrs. Ellwood Elliott presided for the program and gave a nice topic - The family farm yesterday and today and gave a reading. Mrs. Frank Maulden also gave a reading. Mrs. Alex Percy gave a nice mot- to entitled "He who works with nature works with God" and ended with a poem. Mrs. Leo Murray gave a reading on "Farming". Mrs. Ellwood Elliott conducted a word game. Mrs. Alex Percy gave the courtesy remarks and the meeting closed with 0 Canada and Grace and a lovely lunch was served by the hostess. Local News Love and best wishes are extended to Mrs. Ina Eadie, formerly of our area and now at Wingham and District Hospital, who on Saturday, May 9 will celebrate her 89th birthday. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bushell on the gift of their little daughter at Wingham and District Hospital, a sister for Rachael. Visitors with pastor and Mrs. M. Christensen were his sister Mrs. Vivian Parkinson of London and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ormond of Milton. A number from here attended the Lucknow School Band concert at the Lucknow Community Centre on Friday y evening. It was a splendid concert. The band brought credit to the leader Mr. Gor- don Caley and to each one participating. It is a splendid training to help develop musical ability. . Mr. and Mrs. William MacPherson, Holyrood attended the 100th anniversary of Burn's Presbyterian Church on Sunday. We also wish them a pleasant time on their band trip which they take each year. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom McDonald were Mrs. Gertrude Walsh and Mrs. Miller Hartwick of Kincardine. Mrs. Mary Stewart of Millarton. Mrs. Katherine Scott of Purple Grove and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McDonald and family of Orangeville. Mrs. Fred Page concession 10 and her daughter Mrs. Katherine Mohamed and son David of Toronto flew to Vancouver to visit a dear friend there. Baptised at Lucknow Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 10, 1987 were: Jessica Nicole Gilchrist - infant daughter of Grant and Denise Gilchrist and Joseph Allan - infant son of Allan and Jacky Mur- ray by Rev. Allison J. Ramsay. Guests at the home of Fred, Bob and June Gilchrist after the service were: Rev. and Mrs. A.J. A family gathering was held at the home of Allan and Jack Murray. Helen Todd and Isobel Miller had found stored away a quilt top which had been made by the CGIT girls in St. Helen's about 1925 with names of people in the community and their relatives em- broidered on it. Janet MacPherson made a border for it and it will be hung in the St. Helen's Hall. Minutes of Yesteryear for the first six months of 1966 were prepared and read by Janet MacPheron. The topic of "agriculture" was taken by Helen Todd who read an article, on "Agriculture in the West" from the Coun- try Guide. Irene Markham gave a reading and Jean Phillips conducted a contest which re- quired an answer of something used on the farm. Janet MacPherson held an oral quiz on "Agricultural Trivia". The lunch which was a dessert was serv- ed by Jean Phillips and Irene Markham at the beginning of the meeting.
