An interesting and informative afternoon
was enjoyed by 18 members of the Ripley
Women's Institute when they toured the
Bruce Nuclear Power Development which is
on the shores of Lake Huron.
Upon arrival they were served a full
course meal in the cafeteria area followed
by an exciting film and presentation on this
development in the modern theatre. Ex-
hibits and displays showed how electricity is
produced. This is one of the major energy
centres. A bus tour with an excellent com-
mentator toured the whole area which in-
cluded the site for the new Bi -Ax industry in
the Bruce Energy Centre.- Thanks to Annie
Scott, convenor, who arranged this event..

Grass. cut for first time
Village foreman Don Peterbaugh and
assistant Betty McLean improved the ap-
pearance of Gore Park greatly. On Tuesday
May 5 last week Betty riding the big tractor
mower cut the grass for the first time.
With care, patience, and occasionally dis-
mounting and hand picking any larger
sticks she was able to cover the ground. let-
ting the mower chop up the smaller twigs.
This did away with hand raking done in past
years. Besides the fine shredded material
able to settle down provides good ground
cover for the grass and dandelions.
Most people are critical of the dandelions
making nasty remarks about them. We hap-
pen to think that they make a nice colour
pattern. Folks just repeat these remarks
because they have heard them from others.
Let us point out a few good points.
Their large roots punch holes in the heavy
clay for drainage holes for rain water and
for air. Then they provide food for goldfin-
ches. Their seeds are their favourite food.
Also the pollen dust in the flowers is a food
for the honey bees. Patiently and expertly
the workers gather it on the warm and sun-
ny days and carry it back to the hives where
it is stored in empty cells to be used as pro-
tein food for the young larva bees.
It was quite a sight to watch droves of
adult workers streaming past Jerry and
Ann Huber working in their garden last
Wednesday out on the farm on the 6th and
never bothering them. Every bee loaded
with a pair of pollen -beads from dandelion
blossoms. Then people can use the blossoms
to make dandelion wine and also dandelion
jelly. Mrs. Alma Huston will likely give you
the recipe for this one.
Speaking of Gore Park there is another

sun is shining bright and in the right direc-

green leafed one - soft maple, and the third

seem to be susceptible to the virus "Die

we know there is no treatment for "die

the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
The rollcall for the meeting was to
