She was 83. Mrs. Alton was born in Kinloss Township on October 20, 1904 and was the daughter of the late Fred H. Thompson and the late Frances Bell. She married the late William Alton, formerly of Lucknow, Ripley and Toronto, in Lucknow in August of 1927. She was a school teacher in Kinloss Township until her retirement in about 1931. She was a member of the Willowdale United Church. She is survived by one son Douglas of Mississauga, Ontario and two grand- children, David and Melanie. She is predeceased by brothers Bert, Harold and Frank Thompson. The memorial service was held at the Willowdale United Church on Saturday, April 4 with the committal service at the mausoleum in Lucknow on Sunday, April 5. Rev. Lindsay King officiated for the memorial service while Rev. William Henderson officiated for the committal serice. A graveside serive was held at the Greenhill Cemetery in Lucknow. JOHN (JACK) DAVIS John Davis of R.R..8 Watford passed away in Strathroy Hospital, April 8, 1987, he was born in Wallaceburg on July 10, 1908, mar- ried Eleanor Jones, March 30, 1933. Surviving are his wife Eleanor and fami- ly, Jolin of Chatham, Catherine ( Mrs. Mer- vyn Culbert) of R.R. 4 Ripley, George, Ar- thur, Dorothy (Mrs. Don Romphf) of R.R. 8 Watford, Elizabeth (Mrs. Fred Elliott ), T UARI Irene ( Mrs. Ron Lacey) , Evelyn of London, Margaret, James of Cedar Springs, Norma of Corrinna. Predeceased by 1 son William (1982). Also survived by 1 brother Arthur of Port Lambton, 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Rev. Phyllis Barnes of Arkona United Church conducted the funeral April 10, 1987 at the Gilpin Funeral Home, Thedford, Ont. Pallbearers and flowerbearers were grandchildren. Interment Arkona Cemetery. Harvey A. Huffman Harvey Huffman of Listowel and formerly of Egmondville, died in Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, April 6 in his 64th year. Mr. Huffman was a dear friend of Eleanor Swan of Listowel, brother of Alice ( Mrs. Clifford Rahn) of Saskatchewan ; Marjorie ( Mrs. John Morrison) of Dublin; Raymond of Kitchener; Clifford of Monc- ton; Lloyd of Bayfield, Jack of British Col- umbia and Donald of Lucknow. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Huffman was predeceased by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Huffman, brothers Elmer and Gordon and a sister Wilma. Complete funeral services were held at the McBurney Funeral Home in Wingham on Thursday, April 9. Spring interment at Greenhill Cememtery in Lucknow. Locals attend recent dinner The 4-H Achievement Night for "Surviv- ing With Style" will be held on Tuesday, Apr. 21st, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ripley District School. The guest speaker will be Larry Stanley from Paradise Travel in Kincar- dine. Purple Grove . 4-H members who will be attending are Angela, Jennifer and David Collins, Joyce and Judy Lane, Andrew and Sheena MacDonald, Peggy Stewart and Theresa Stanley. The community was well represented this past wegk at the Men of Missions Dinner and meeting held on Apr. 6 at Bervie, the Fall Fair Dinner and' Card Party in Ripley on Apr. 8, the Spring Luncheon held at St. An- drew's United Church on Apr. 9, and at the Belmore Maple Syrtip Festival on Apr. 11. Currie Colwell of South Kinloss and daughter, Betty Morrison, Kyle and Neil of Sudbury, Teresa and • Tania Farrell, Annie Scott, Richard McCosh, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Colwell of Kincardine, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Elliott and Jenny Farrell all visited this past week with Don and Anne McCosh. The Grove Bible Study Group met at the homes of Minerva Stewart and Anne McCosh. Gladys Arnold was one of four delegates PURPLE from the Bruce -Grey Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society to attend the Society's Regional Meeting which was held in Stratford. Krista Armstrong visited with Christina Farrell on Wednesday afternoon. Jim Farrell attended the Ontario Holstein Spring Show on Saturday. in Stratford while Fran visited with Irene and Joe West and family of Stratford. On Monday and Tuesday of this week, Jim and Fran Farrell attended the National Holstein Convention held in Toronto. John Cuthbert from the Canadian Wool Growers Association was a guest of John and Joyce Farrell and family this past weekend.
