The increase in unemployment has been particularly noticeable among young people according to Statistics Canada. The unemployment rate for men under the age of 25, rose from over 12 percent in 1975 to a peak of over 22 percent in 1983, then declin- ed to just over 18 percent in 1985. Among women in the same age group, unemploy- ment increased from over 11 percent in 1975 to 17 percent in 1983, before declining to under 15 percent in 1985.
