Roses one of many topics discussed
at Horticultural Society meeting
The Lucknow and District Horticultural
Society held their March meeting in the
Legion Hall.
Mrs. M. Burkhart, first vice-president,
welcomed everyone and read a reading on
Japanese gardens. Mrs. G Farrish told
about how to prepare a garden for better
production as rotating is a good program.
Mrs. Alex Andrew spoke on roses. They
have so many beautiful ones and they do
need certain care. Mrs. Alex Hackett gave
a few hints on gardening. Mrs. Lavis ex-
plained the best way .to prune and, had a
flower quiz contest.

Mrs. Burkhart gave a talk on gladioli,
how to treat corms and how to plant.
Mrs. MacGillivrav gave a report on the
district meeting, telling about the plans for
the District 8 Annual 'Convention in
Seaforth on April 4. Mrs. Burkhart, Mrs.
Arnold, Mrs. McNaughton, Mrs. Joan
Robinson and Mrs. Bogues will attend the
District 8 Annual Convention.
The members discussed a flower
emblem for Lucknow as each society has
its own emblem. The trip to the Garden
Festival in Toronto was discussed. It was
moved that the Easter Lillies be given to
the churches for Easter. It was moved that
Mrs. Whitby will order more trees to be
planted in the town.
The committee of Mrs. Alex Andrew,
Mrs. Alex Hackett, Mrs. Grant Parrish,
Mrs. Reavie and Mrs. L. MacDougall serv-
ed a lovely lunch.

St. Patrick's Day concert
enjoyed by community
On March 16th St. Joseph's Kingsbridge
held their annual St. Patrick's Day concert
which was enjoyed by the young and old. A
variety of old Irish songs were the
mainstay of the evening. The Brownies
and Girl Guides provided lunch.
Dan and Marylin Dalton and their
children Trisha, Carl, Susan and Chris of
Fergus spent a few days visiting with the
Dalton families.
On March' 17th we spotted our first robin
in the Amberley area.
A benefit dance was held for Stu
MacLennan at the Lucknow Legion
on r riday, March 20. An overwhelming
crowd attended and it was good to see all
the community spirit. People attended
from Ripley, Goderich, Kincardine and
some came from as far as Detroit.

The Trinity UCW held their regular mon-
thly meeting at the horhe of Mrs. John
Williams with 20 ladies and one child
present.
Mrs. Blake Alton opened the meeting
with a verse and welcomed everyone. Mrs.
Fred Phillips was in charge of the devo-
tions. A hymn was sung by all. The medita-
tion was entitled "Too much of a good
'thing". The scripture lesson as from Cor-
rintheans. Another hymn was sung. Mrs.
Phillips' closing thought was "What's So.
Ever".
"A Way to Chase Winter Blues" was the
rollcall for this meeting.
Mrs. Don Alton led the members in the
study book assisted by Mrs. Larry Wilkins.
Mrs. Jim Hunter introduced the guest
speaker, June Taylor from the Survival
Through Friendship House in Goderich.
Mrs. Blake Alton thanked Ms. Taylor for
coming and explaining the operation of the
home.
The Service of the Least Coin was
observed. The minutes of the last meeting
were read and approved.

for a few days visiting relatives and

March 18 and 20.
Jenny, Mike and Jeff Davies, of Ottawa
spent the Spring break with their grand-

Mrs. Murray Irvin announced the con-
gregational skating party was to be held on
March 21 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. with lunch
and fellowship back in the church
basement.
Four Trinity ladies attended the World
Day of Prayer at St. Augustine on March 6.
Mrs. Chester and Lorne Hackett will be in
contact with the ladies concerning the
"Short Order Meals" course in the next
couple of weeks.
The president closed the meeting with
the Benediction and Mrs. Jim Hunter and
Mrs. Allan Ritchie helped Mrs. Williams
with the lunch.
