Full time bank clerk in town
Kathleen Hunter of the Sixth concession
west in Huron township, RR 4 Ripley is now
the Proof Clerk at the Royal Bank in Kincar-
dine. She told us last Thursday morning that
she had just received notice of this perma-
nent appointment to start on Monday,
March 23, 1987. So she ended her work at the
Ripley Royal on Friday afternoon March 20,
1987.
Kathleen got her secondary education in
the Ripley District High School starting in
Grade 9 in September, 1968 with 29 in the
class and room teacher Mrs. Barbara
Burgess. After completing the five years at
school, she entered the Ripley Royal Bank
starting on Monday, October 15, 1973. While
checking on material for this article last
Friday noon in the bank, some members of
the staff recalled that it was just two years
ago on this Friday that this Ripley Royal
Bank was robbed - Friday, March 22, 1985 in
the forenoon - a nice bright sunny weekend,
much like last weekend but big snow banks
lining the roads. Kathleen said that her new
job was to put all financial documents going
out from the Kincardine Royal through this
recorder so that they would have the infor-
mation for ready reference.
We learned that Kincardine now has six
banking facilities - the Royal, the Bank of
Montreal, the Commerce, the National
Trust, the Hepco Credit Union, and the
Toronto Dominion or T.D. Bank.
All set to watch 5th Estate
On Tuesday evening last week, March 17,
we were set to see the 5th Estate on T.V. It
Was pre-empted by the Genie Awards which
was a zero to this writer. The 5th Estate was
to have a section on AGORAPHOBIA. One
in every 20 adults has some form of it, so
they say. And this writer acquired some
marking Grade 13 Zoology papers back in
July 1953 in Toronto. It took us 20 years to '
find the name of our condition, and then only
by reading a book by an Australian lady doc-
tor. So we were looking forward to last Tues-
day's program and not these Genies - what a
disappointment.

Alumni names in Gazette In Memoriam
The Alumni Gazette for Spring 1987 arriv-
ed from the University of Western Ontario,
at London, last Thursday. So we looked
Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, March 25, 1987—Page 9
through the graduates named to see if there
were any we knew. There were two names
listed "In Memoriam" which were known to
Ripley folks.
William Macauley Gilmore, M.D.'27 on
Dec. 23, 1986, Stratford; L.J. Wilson Totten,
B.A. '33 on July 24, 1986 in Toronto.
Macauley lived in Ripley when his father
was the minister at Knox Church.
Wilson Totten was a classmate in Honour
Math and Physics with Ab Wylds. He
became the principal of the Davie and Mary
Thompson Collegiate, East Toronto.
Jean Osborne B.A., another Western
graduate, was one of the sixty some
teachers on staff there.
