Farmers
If you're needing help in coping with a
problem or problems, on your farm, call
the Farmers Helpline. The Helpline was
established in November of 1985 by the On-
tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, to
provide support to farm families who are
experiencing difficulties. The trained staff
at the Helpline will listen to your situation
and make the appropriate referral (s I for
you.
So if you are haying problems obtaining
this year's line of credit, if you have a legal
concern, or family problems .or if you're
feeling that you're under too much pressure,
call the Helpline. If you need information on
helpline
transition programs or in exploring alter-
natives to increase your income either on or
off of the farm, call the Helpline.
You don't have to give your name when
you call and all information is strictly con-
fidential. Over 1,700 farmers have already
made use of the Helpline. You can take the
first step in helping yourself by calling the
Helpline. Trained staff are on duty from
9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
After hours and on weekends, an answering
serve will page the staff person on call,
and they will call back promptly. If you
need help, it's only a phone call away -
1-800-265-1511.
OAC Libra matures early
Outyielding the popular variety Evans,
OAC Libra should quickly become the
most popular soybean variety in 2650 heat
unit areas. OAC Libra matures about four
days earlier than Evans and seven days
later than Maple Arrow. Early maturity
makes OAC Libra ideal for farmers plann-
ing to double crop by following their soy-
bean crop with winter wheat.
OAC Libra's oil content is slightly higher
than Evans and about equal to Maple Ar-
row. Its hilum colour is black.
Recently released through SeCan
Association, this new soybean variety was
developed at the University of Guelph.
Contributing to OAC Libra's strong yield
performance is its tolerance to Phytop-
thora root rot. It is also tolerant to the her-
bicide Metribuzin allowing growers an ef-
fective weed control program.
